A Quick Covid-19 Rapid Test and Then Wheels Up For the Su!
« on: August 01, 2020, 11:50:29 AM »
A young monger I know preparing to leave for the Su asked me to post this update while not revealing his moniker. Highlights:

Concerned about conflicting reports about Coronavirus testing at DR airports the young dude decided to consult with his health insurance provider here in the states. They told him he was good to go for a rapid Covid test for just the usual co-pay. I'm guessing $40 or so. It took dude a minute to find a testing facility offering an immediate turnaround but he did. It was one of those walk-in, immediate service healthcare clinics. But to get the results within minutes you have to make an appointment. Dude called ahead and got the appointment.

He said they shoved Q-tips or some other kind of swab deep into both nostrils -- one at a time -- but only one was slightly uncomfortable. Then he was advised to leave and sit in his car until they called him. The call came in about 15 minutes. The nurse told him: "Good news!" Results were negative. Young dude said he breathed a sigh of relief. Then he went back inside and was given paperwork certifying the negative test result. Now he is all set for his flight without having to worry about any testing nonsense in the DR.

Personally, as an old head, I recommend getting tested for the virus before and after -- once before you leave and immediately upon returning to the states. If you got "people" back at your house you don't want to return home Covid positive and then infect everybody back at the house. The same goes for your workplace. Get the Covid-19 tests before you leave and when you get back.  If you are going to play the game, then protect everyone around you, and that includes the whole gamut of STD tests once you're back. Trust me on this.

Play safe -- and good luck to young dude currently on his way to the land of milk and honey.

Good info.  I just want to add that I would recommend everyone take an antibody test.  Back in June my company was offering it for free.  After being stuck in the house for 3 months, I said what the hell let me take it.  3 days later I got the results and the antibody was detected.  That means I had it and didn’t even know.  Back in April I had an annoying cough but since it was allergy season i thought it was that. Never felt sick or ever thought it was corona.  It’s crazy how this virus affects everyone different.  I am only telling you this because you may have had corona and not even know it.  I just got back from Santo Domingo on Monday.  The only reason I felt comfortable going is because I felt a little “bulletproof” cause I have the antibody.  So for dudes who want to go, but a little worried that is the best advice I can give you.  Hurry up, because the antibody won’t last forever from what I hear.

That's crazy!  I suspect that more people have (or had) COVID-19 than we know.   I caught the flu in late November 2019, in Colombia.  Last time I had the flu, was Swine flu, back in 2009.   Sometimes, I wonder if I had COVID-19.  The only reason I think I didn't get is because COVID was first detected in China, in January 2020.

I hear you Lurker, but there is nothing wrong with being tested. The young dude who texted me did the right thing. Information is power. I still say guys headed down should get tested for the virus, and then upon return, get tested for both the virus and STDs.

Play safe.

Lurker, get the antibody test, it’ll tell you if you had it or not. Lol it is 2019, hence the -19 in Covid-19

Thing is not all tests are accurate. I know a guy thar took two different antibody tests for the best most accurate results

Ive also seen people that were positive a few months ago still wearing masks and being careful jut in case. So i wouldn't assume bulletproof status on an anti body test, that's just me
