At what point are we taking things to far?
« on: September 11, 2018, 07:32:46 AM »
I was at dinner last night with city officials. Someone actually took the time to print out various posts from this site and actually got them into the Mayors hands. Made up this whole narrative about how Bourbon Street, not even really Ahnvee, but Bourbon Street is promoting prostitution in Sosua through GreekFest. Now my question is this? WTF has this turned into? Ok, it’s one thing to hate, say you not coming, etc........but come on! What’s the purpose? I always ignore the negative shit that gets posted on here because at the end of the day I know thats not really the consensus. Its just a couple of dudes that are trying to bait me into stupid arguments online. So when that doesn't work now you have dudes actually taking the shit here, printing it out, and basically making shit up. Good thing I have a actual relationship with the local govt because shit really could have escalated. Everybody worried about dudes snitching to hoes about this site, need to be worried about a lot worse than that. Everyday I see a topic about we need to get back to the info and pics. This site took a serious turn for the worse about 3-4 months ago. It all started with 3-4 posters. Those same posters are the ones trolling this site and taking the shit offline. We got people sending posts to online bloggers, media outlets, government officials and who knows who else. Those are just the instances that I know about. Someone actually sent the link to this site with descriptions to many of my female employees at Ahnvee and BS. My question is at what point is it going to far? I mean there is a new moderator but still the same dudes doing the same shit. Thats where all of this starts. This is not a forum for hate, racism, personal attacks, or politics. Shit shouldn't be tolerated in ANY form. If a dude is not giving info, seeking info, posting pics or trip reports they should have their posting privileges taken away. Period! How many alias are you going to allow someone to create just to attack someone? Im assuming that the moderator sees that its the same IP addresses. Complicated trolls use different VPN's but these are not intelligent dudes. You can tell the way that they post and the things that they talk about that its the same people.

I usually stay out of this nonsense but I will be honest, If someone is going that far it is reckless. Having been in bad situations due to hate, You are not only affecting the business but you could affect a persons livelihood and freedom and that is above and beyond internet trolling.
If you dont like a place or a person, DONT GO. But dont take shit to where it affects someones life.

Give your reviews on a spot. Likes and Dislikes.. Boycott, Dont Boycott, but dont take it to levels that will hurt someone outside of the site.

Just my 2 cents

Hey Bourbon Street,

It might help if someone would tell us the back story on all the attacks against you and your properties. I'm in the Su a few times a year and I have no idea about all the confusion. It would be helpful if you could offer some perspective without naming names. It sounds like bad blood between former partners or competitors.

The only thing I have questioned is the open placement of the toilets in some of the rooms at Ahnvee, but you explained that well enough. I've visited Bourbon Street several times and had good times. But it seems like there is something up involving you, maybe Taylor Made and a handful of posters here.

As for your Greek event, I think that's ballsy, but I am willing to wait and see. It is true that many of us want Sosua to be a secret getaway and that it not be advertised to the folks back home. On the other hand, I understand you have an investment and perhaps investors to protect.

But to sum it up, it would be helpful to know what's really going on.

Women need a reason to have sex. Men just need a place. Sosua will do just fine.

Rules should be enforced. People held accountable. Banned for pernicious activity.

Controversy has a price associated with it.

I have no idea where this shit is coming from. As far as backstory, I came to Sosua and noticed that there were not any businesses that really catered to people that looked like me and thought like me. Me and VP hooked up and brought you guys Victorian House. Place was closed and we brought it back to life. VP moved on to Puerto Plata and started doing his thing and I moved Bourbon Street from VH to its current location. A year later I opened Ahnvee. All of my business have the same premise. What did I like when I was down here as a tourist, what did I want to eat when I was down here as a tourist, what would I like to have seen at my hotel when I was a tourist. Thats it. Ive been more successful than even I thought, and I think thats the problem. In this town if you want to stop somebody you basically send the politicians after them. The go to weapon has been this site. VP got arrested a couple years back because we were having some of the craziest pool parties at VH. Every Sunday the town was completely empty because everyone in town was at our Pool Party. after a couple of months the Police rolled up on VP and arrested him. Their proof was posts from this website that someone printed out and gave them. Armando, the owner of half of Sosua was Deported twice for "promoting" prostitution. At his first trial they used pictures of a concert we had at VH as evidence. He was in the photo just looking at the concert with everyone else. That was their proof.

Fast forward to yesterday and its something from the same playbook. Somebody actually printed out over 100 posts and had them translated into Spanish. I have a good relationship with govt so nobody was accusing me of anything. They were basically asking me why would somebody send this to them. Not sure if thats the way it would have went if it was somebody else. I always say this, you can spend your money anywhere you want. I want to earn your dollars. But when people like Blacknight starts talking about Boycotting, the destruction of Sosua, orgies in the streets, etc......That gives people ides. Then you get trolls like Hip Hop to latch on and perpetuate that shit. Then he logs into another account and talks back and forth with himself and and nobody says anything about it. Thats reckless. It gives people with other motives ammunition. Authorities, thought that shutting down Passions would reduce prostitution in Sosua, it didn't. They thought closing rumbas would reduce prostitution, it didn't. When we first opened they said that closing Bourbon Street would reduce prostitution. I was ready for that so nothing came of it. This past Sunday during gametime there was NOBODY in any other  places on the strip. I don't know about the Beach or Flip Flop because I didn't go down that way but everyone on the strip was in Bourbon Street watching the games. Then out of nowhere the next day Im called to a meeting talking about promoting prostitution. So @Fuente, to answer your question about backstory, thats it. Guys come on this site and make reckless claims and troll identifiable posters or businesses, if that doesn't work, they print this shit out and make up stories about promoting prostitution. There should be 0 and I mean 0 tolerance for that shit. If a person even seems like a troll they should be banned.

@BourbonStreet  I'm actually in NOLA right now and was on your street last night. lol

Anyways, sorry to hear that this is happening and wish you the very best.  I know most of my competitors in my business industry.  We all get along and I see them at 3 to 4 times a year at the yearly conferences.  Competition is fierce at times, but I would never try to get someone arrested is pure stupidity.

@Bourbon Street, thanks for the insight. As an entrepreneur I definitely feel you. Although I have never met you, I have patronized your businesses, dating back to the Victorian House days when VP was throwing the most incredible parties. But you weren't promoting prostitution then or now.

I think this will pass over in time. I know, easy for me to say becuase I don't have to meet your payroll. I actually thought about some business opportunities in Sosua but backed away because of the very thing you are going through. The Dominican Republic is full of brown-skinned people, but it is a different vibe when its a brown-skinned African-American from the United States, if you understand my drift.

As for this site, well, it is a wonderful resource but it definitely needs structure and a Code of Conduct. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening.

Good luck, Bourbon Street. I'm looking forward to hitting the restaurant when I come down for Halloween.

Im good, really I am. I made all of the preparations to make sure I was insulated from the politics before I ever went into business here. Thats not my point. My point is that guys trolling on this site actually take shit offline. Lets say this whole thing played out the way they wanted. The authorities locked me up and closed Ahnvee and Bourbon Street. Who wins in that situation? Whats gained? I can't even say its immature, its some real world fuckboy shit. Chris rock said it best. I love black people, but I hate Niggas. Only niggas would intentionally sabotage each other on a open forum for sport.

I really agree with pretty much everything you just wrote. I told u I’m good. Not looking from any sympathy or anything like that. I don't want it to come across like that. Don’t miss the bigger point. This board needs to be seriously moderated. This was not the first time nor will it be the last. Hopefully me sharing my real world personal experience will help the next person out. From a business perspective, mongering perspective, and from a how to interact on this site perspective.

@BourbonStreet  I'm sure you have a good idea as to who would do this to you.  They have to be informed and connected to people within Sosua.  Very sad...
