Yeahhhh if you’re not an expert swimmer , why be waist / neck deep in water

RIP nonetheless
it's multiple drops in the water, that's uneven. Near the coral reef rock near playa Sosua it goes from 4.5 ft to 6ft in an instance and catches plenty off guard and that's right next to the sand/shore.

I'd imagine something similar happened instead of him just venturing out too deep. He was probably in an unfamiliar environment he thought was safe and calm and got caught off guard essentially, instead of being liquored up and swimming.

Terrible story. Yes, all be careful. I know it's a morbid tradition, but I wish Spanish papers would stop posting pics of the deceased.

Mexico is the worst.....

I used to work with Mexicans in California. Blue collar down to earth dudes but they LOVED these full color glossy magazines that showed all the latest cartel hits and other violence. Tabloids full of the most disgusting and gory shit you've ever seen. They looked at that shit like it was People Magazine and laughed at me because I got so grossed out by it.

PUERTO PLATA.-  A US citizen drowned on Friday afternoon while swimming off the beach in Cabarete.

The deceased was identified as 39-year-old King Pierce Cartel, a native of California in the United States, who was in the country on vacation.

Witnesses to the incident indicated that Pierce was swept into a deep part by the waves when he entered the Atlantic Ocean in front of the Hotel Perla Marina.

The body of the tourist was rescued from the waters and paramedics from the National System of Attention to Emergencies and Security 9-1-1 tried to revive him, but unfortunately, he expired during the attempts.

Messrs. Maris Martínez and Nick Jacques, regretting this event, agreed that people should be prevented from swimming at this beach because of its danger and it also lacks warning signs.

All visitors should be warned: do not swim in front of Hotel Perla Marina, be careful of waves if you’re not familiar with them and not a very strong and experienced swimmer. If ever caught in a riptide never attempt to swim back to the beach against the current! Swim parallel to the beach until out of the current, then swim back to the beach.

In another incident, an unidentified woman was hit by a motorcycle while trying to cross the Sosúa-Cabarete highway, so she had to be helped and taken to a health center where she received medical attention.

Swim parallel to the shore if in a riptide.

Dont get drunk and swimming.

Use a buddy system.

If your in deep water for extended period of time use a lifevest.

Trying to think who wrote about getting caught in Sosua Bay. Memphis Raines maybe. Got his ass kicked trying to get back to shore, and he is a strong swimmer and grew up in the water.
