The Chinese move hard with big money billions the just finished a highway in Jamaica for billions and the have the rights to the highway and the adjacent land. They have invested billions in Africa. If they Chinese want Sosua they will get it they move as a whole unit hell they are making island off of the coast of China to expand their territory.
I would not say low educated people because low educated people take orders they don't give orders.
Were does DR import most of their goods from. I do agree Sosua's infrastructure is not the best pvc water line on the ground the electric grid and data service but these are thing the Chinese will help the update for a fee and then move in. But we will see what happens. Money talks.

There is talk about a highway bypass project on the North Coast. If you hear anything about big infrastructure, chances are its being either built by the Chinese or with a loan from them.

All of you make really good points. I also agree that usually if a Chinese businessman makes a move it’s always pretty calculated. They have been quietly watching the Sosua nightlife for months. To me taking the old Dlatins spot is indicating that they want in on the after sundown action on Pedro Clisante. The move also makes me question the new red light district. If that’s really going down I would think they would be the ones buying up all the land down there. Interesting that they are focusing on properties in the middle of Sosua.

They are interested in cheap rent and profit margin. Those guys are actually running a nice little store out of that spot. It's like a dollar store, little bit of everything in there.

As for the Chinese government.. they've been writing subprime loans to developing countries all over the world. It's a scam they learned from the US, we did the same shit in the 80's. Write a loan that the government can't possibly pay back and then demand land or resources in exchange for the debt. The difference here is that it's pretty difficult to rob a thief and the DR Government is one of the best thief's on the block. They'll get some new highways and the Chinese will end up with some scrub land on the Haitian border LOL.

I was in Costa Rica for vacation last year.  Chinese are heavily invested there!  Very big Chinatown in San Jose.  Chinese restaurants everywhere.  They own and operate all of the mini marts.  At the country club I played some golf, and tons of Chinese people.  I really didn't expect to see that!  One of my cab drivers explained the Chinese have invested heavily in roads, infrastructure, even built the national soccer stadium, in exchange for fishing rights.

Have not heard much about fishing lately, but they were trying to get a deal with Guyana to place a dozen factory trawlers there. That would pretty much scrub the Atlantic of sea life.

You must not have heard about fishing at all. Twelve factory trawlers won't make a scratch in the Atlantic fishing industry. There's a hundred times that fishing from Greenland to the Faulkland Islands.

Facts.... That stadium is really nice.. The Chinese are the type the officials in the DR want coming, they will invest in road improvements and the infrastructure for something in return.

Ok Ok... So I am a little liberal, excuse the Greenpeace video. But when one single ship has the ability to kill twice the global quota of a species and this much attention is being drawn to it, a fleet of them, and their support vessels will be catastrophic to fish stocks.  And with a dragger net close to a kilometre wide, they are destroying everything in their path.

And crap... Beside these super killers China has over 2000 fishing boats working around the world. Get your shark fin soup while you can!

It just freaks me out a little. Gonna go out for a steak.

No worries. I'm a soft touch for charity. I already started donating to the Haiti earthquake situation. But I am saying "prayers only" to my Haitian chicas on Badoo...lol

I was literally just standing in front of bourbon street and 10 Asians walked into the old dlatin building. Then they stood outside and looked at all of us. I could literally see the gears in their heads turning. It made me think of this post. I wonder what else they have planned.

@nick
I’m interested to see what they do. Whatever it is I’m almost certain it will be a business catering to African Americans. I’m taking bets on who will be the AA face of their business. They will get with one of the dudes living down there and use them as the front man to get blacks coming through the door.

I been looking at that shit for the past 2 weeks. Last weekend a couple of them came over on Sunday and ordered 50 wings with all the sauces. It was funny watching them watching us.
