@nick
I’m interested to see what they do. Whatever it is I’m almost certain it will be a business catering to African Americans. I’m taking bets on who will be the AA face of their business. They will get with one of the dudes living down there and use them as the front man to get blacks coming through the door.
@ROTY,
Facts.... On top of that, they will tell the top officials to back off and promise to make improvements around the town...Look for a new school to be built for the kids that go to that school on Pedro Clisante.

The Chinese are everywhere in Santo Domingo.  They own most of the small shit shops in Santo Domingo that import everything on the cheap.  They also sell all of the cheap dresses and shoes that these hoes be running around in.  Almost everything cheap in the DR is made from China, so yes...they are heavily invested in the DR.

I don't think the Chinese will have much say with what happens in Sosua though.  That will take place in the next election by the citizens of Sosua.

The real question is what kind of changes will take place between then and now.

The one thing that confuses me is that even if you move all of the clubs down the street, a lot of the hotels are back by the current strip.  You will still see the chicas in the streets around all the hotels after their last trick and then walking to try to find their next trick.

Will they try to move the hotels too?!?!?

The Chinese are running all over the Caribbean these days, people think its just Africa but they are all over the islands too. I knew about Jamaica, Guyana and Trinidad but not DR also.

The Chinese President Xi Jingping is definitely trying to takeover.

But i don't think DR will work for them like other countries. I think Ramfis Trujillo when he wins election in 2020 will be the bigger problem for guys on this site. He is an obvious hardcore racist and i hope they are prepared to see him find reasons to kick out the Taylor Made Dreams type of guys and make it harder for guys from America to get homes here.

Or increasing tensions towards Haitians

I would fear him in office more than Chinese walking around

They are all over DR. Nothing new.. There are currently 7  chinese owned businesses in sosua.

Im just curious is the strip moving to the red light district or are the chinese keeping pedro alive?

We knew the strip wasnt moving when three businesses spent thousands on TVs in time for Football season and the chinese thrift store opened across from Rumba as well as the TWO chinese restaurants.

Note to those who arent too business savey when it comes to ethnicity... Chinese ONLY build and buy in areas where they will make money and the economy will grow for future revenue..

And this is not me buying lo mien having a convo with the chic scooping the rice. This is knowing chinese business men and how they operate.. All these NEW chinese business popped up in the last 6 months for a reason. and all in the same area on the strip...

Things that make you go... Hmmmmmm

Does the sosua government really think they can turn sosua into a family friendly destination? It’s a small town with no real infrastructure. There are no real attractions. Don’t get me wrong, I understand being a visionary and planning for the future but sosua would need ALOT of work to turn into a legitimate destination for families. I’m not even talking about the prostitution.

What the Chinese will do is build Casino's and hotels to accommodate Chinese tourist, If they start moving in they will price everybody else out of Sosua. You only have to look at what was until a few years ago the sleepy laid back Beach resort of sihanoukville, in Cambodia. Where Chinese Casinos have popped up all over the place there..... They are buying up blocks of land in Pattaya right now too, because the Thai Govt may "SOON" relax Laws on Gambling there as well. In a nut shell if the Chinese send tourist to Sosua, they will provide everything for them, Chinese Run Hotels, Chinese Run tours Chinese Run every thing and all profits will be returned to China,,,, Thats the way the do things "The Chinese way"

I would never eat Chinese food in the DR.  I am told that they purchase the dead or sick chickens and then cook them at their restaurants.  I've been told this by numerous well connected guys that live in the DR.

Simply look at who's at the counter taking the money...if they are Chinese, then it is Chinese owned.  They don't trust the Dominicans with cash. lol

No need to speculate, I actually walked across the street and asked for myself. The Chinese across the street from Bourbon Street are not opening a club or restaurant. According to them, and wouldn't think they would have reason to lie is that they are building a superstore. Clothes, shoes, school supplies , etc. Kinda like a cross between a dollar store and forever 21. They signed a 2 year lease.

They make a lot of money from these superstores and the Dominicanos love them because the only thing super about them is SUPER CHEAP!!!

I think you are reading these moves completely wrong. The two super stores and 2 restaurants supports the notion that they are moving the strip. they are doing exactly what they said, making sure that there are only restaurants, stores, and gift shops on the strip. Now before we get into deep conspiracy theories, let me go on the record and say that I don't give 2 fucks if they move the strip or leave it where it is. The average person on this site or the average person that comes to Sosua will not be affected if they move the strip or they don't. We really are just discussing possibilities but none of this is really that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.

This is Sosua and shit changes every day but as of right now the people in charge are dead ass serious about moving all of bars and restaurants out of the heart of Pedro Clisante. Willy stopping renovations of his new club when it was 80% done is a major indicator of where things are headed at this moment. He was told that he won't be able to do a club in that space in no shape form or fashion. We were all told that by July 30th we have to move OR make modifications and fit their definition of what a restaurant is. None of this is supposed to take place until next year and there will be major legal challenges to these mandates.

As I read more about this, I believe that this moving the strip scenario is really going to happen. Let’s say the new “district” is at the end of the road and all the “revenue” shops/eateries are around the beach.  This means mongers will stay in hotels away from the beach and travel to the beach if they want to enjoy it.  I don’t see any problem with that version and no one will really lose money…shops will sell, hotels will sell and chicas will sell in or out of the “redlight district.”   People drive to charramicos, cabarete, and the casinos already…so going to and from the new red light district should really be no big whoop.  Use the beach/environment to attract people, sell them comfortable stays, and let them enjoy their stays in DR and send them home with stuff that they can remember their visit fondly.
