HARD TIMES FOR BUSINESS AND ARTISTS AT SOSUA BEACH
« on: September 13, 2017, 08:41:08 AM »
It’s low season, few tourists visit Sosúa. But also some government measures such as closing some bars and two clubs caused more tourists to stay away from town. Hurricane Irma has also had an impact, people left early or have canceled their plan to visit Sosúa. Besides the bars, restaurants and souvenir shops the visual artists have real hard time to survive. The painters, sculptors and jewelers at the beach. The artists can not pay the rent of their workplace and have difficulties supporting their families. Many of these workshops and galleries are now closed. The artists now hire with three or four men a work area on the beach to reduce the costs.
But what really lacks are the tourists who want to buy a piece of art. So do not just come for the beer, but also purchase an original painting. You then take a nice memory home and you will help the local artist.

Bought this in April in Sosua. Chica I was with got mad because I paid what the guy asked instead of haggling for a lower price lol. I figured if I'm dropping 1500-3000 pesos on girls all day the least I can do is drop 1000 on a local. Still sitting here rolled up though

@KingPOP - I will tell you from experience, I always have my chica do the negotiations of the prices because those cats will get you if you don't. I've tested it a couple of times and the price differences they have quoted reminds me of how tourists get caught in the city all the time by jacked up prices. Having the locals negotiating prices became more evident to me when I started venturing outside of Sosua. In my chica's hometown outside of Santo Domingo, I had got some natural fruit juices from a local, I guess it's best to call them vendors but to me the price wasn't ridiculous. When I told her what I paid she went right back to the vendor and got the local price. Now I don't even bother trying to buy anything when she's not around. I love hustling so I hate to get hustled.

TAKE ME BACK TO SOSUA - For men who love Dominican women
