That is the vehicle entrance very badly lit. There is another side entrance down the street before that one where the Town Hall is. Very well lit, entrance just next to Town Hall.

It's the entrance people on foot use and also security guy in a hutch.

I've stayed there a few times. It's OK.

I've also stayed at Condos Dominicanos many times. Also very good,  in same area as Garden Condos abit closer to town.

Garden Condos is safe as you get.

Also, another hidden Gem I have used on and off for YEARS is a place called CONDOS DOMINICANO  20 unit place with security in/out.  Pool.  Studios, 1 BR and 2 BR...

Condos Dominicano Studio, with a full kitchen will run you about 20-30 a night.

Message me if you need more info.... also, I know my boy VPEEZY can vouch for this spot, as we both lived there for a summer a few years back

Search Airbnb with the following: Waterfront Village (Bungalow #6) Sousa, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic Hosted by Brianna. The average prices because she runs 3 of them is 14 plus electricity and a once a week maid service. Great deal and has mini kitchenette in the room, so the grocery store is about 3 blocks away for the essentials´╗┐...and the one & two bedroom units are 1 minute walk from Playa Alicia.

Try a private villa instead of a hotel, spit cost with friends. I booked last trip with this website https://www.sosua-villas.com/

Casa de Campai. Chica friendly, Newly renovated, affordable, and good security. John's a great guy too. It's around the corner from Europa.

Try some spot a little further away from the strip prices drop and size increases.

You should check on airbnb for condos located inside Plaza Europa hotel.
Some rent for cheaper than the rooms from Europa and they have the same security, same desk clerk and you have access to the same services like cleaning and restaurant except that if you want your room cleaned, you will have to pay for it.
IMHO, It's a good option, all rooms have kitchenette and a good size fridge, and I would not bother walking from there to the strip ... I made it every night on foot while I was staying in a condo there or when I rented a room from Europa.
Why bother with life?
Nobody has ever come out alive.
