The Global Tourism hatin on DR (Hoe Shit)
« on: July 28, 2020, 12:35:16 PM »
So Vogue the magazine just shitted on DR by having this months topic DR but the cover is a grotesque DR beach ... the other 4 beautiful pics are in the article 😆

British Vogue cover in which it shows a beach in the bay of Samaná full of garbage, this Monday the magazine published an article and a post on Instagram with the other photographs of the author.

The other four images show completely different landscapes of the mangroves of Los Haitises National Park, one of the main tourist attractions in the province.

After backlash the editor saved face by saying the country is beautiful

But like this French commenter said

Monseigneur Jean de Langeron

And unfortunately it is so TRUE!!! Almost entire national territory in DR is covered with garbage and plastic! This people say they love their country but they throw the garbage and plastic bags and bottles EVERYWHERE!!! It is a disgrace! Driving behind a guagua somewhere on the road you will see the plastic bottles and containers flying from the windows. It is horrible! AND VERY TRUE!!!

hanging out this past trip I’ve seen my shorty do this often, and I wondered by she didn’t just wait until we got to a trash receptacle of some sort. After driving around San Pedro etc I realized there aren’t too many trash receptacles...

I think this can be said for all countries. It bothers me when internet entities trash something. Yall know I travel all over and yes, I might see some trash in one spot but it's no where near 1 percent of the island.  I post videos of beaches, rivers, tourist spots like the malecon. Where is the trash? If it was an issue worthy of international exposure, we should be able to see that everywhere...but we don't. I just take it with a grain of salt. If it's a high population, high visitation area...well you'll have more trash than average unless you have a dedicated sanitation crew working on a daily basis.  But the UK, Scotland included and especially [France] should keep their mouths shut about other locations and focus on the enormous amounts of trash they all have.  Mohammed forgive me, but I used to talk about France like a dog. That said, they all have come a long way and continue to do better. As we all should.

This was a couple years ago in Santo Domingo. The DR (and many 3rd world countries) lacks an effective recycling infrastructure.

With exception of Singapore (the maximum fine for a littering offence is $2,000 for the first court conviction, $4,000 for the second conviction, and $10,000 for the third and subsequent convictions), which country doesn't have a littering problem?

Well I've said and seen it myself. The Dominican people do litter all over the place. They don't have city and state workers like we do in my state on the side of the road daily picking up trash.

I've seen mounds of trash all over the country like it's a landfill. That dry "river" behind Chez Monreal is the perfect example! In all my time going to SOSUA I've never seen it without mounds of trash that Dominicans throw in their daily. I've seen old buildings that were abandoned walls missing full of disgusting trash and waste with homelss sleeping in them....

Well I can only speak for where I live and be. You have a problem with conditions where you live then it's time to vote the city council, mayor out! I'm sorry you live in such a impoverished area.

In my city you get fined up the ass for that shit and they will lien your ass big time! That being said you shouldn't walk down no city/towns Main street and see that....especially a tourist town.

Different countries. Different infrastructures. Different cultures. Different value systems.  One things for sure...it's limited to higher populated areas.
