Funny how so many here casually dismiss racism and prejudice away due to their own agendas. Most would take offense to be treated how Marwa , but since its not you I guess he gets what he deserves. "He looks Haitian" sounds a lot like "he looks like a thug" . Everyone has tons a criticism about his look and how he carries himself. Of course a white man can do the same thing (camera out / vlogging enjoying life) but we all know that people good on their Ps and Qs the lighter the skin gets.

Can you or anyone on this board cite an example of racist treatment you or they received while in the DR? If Dominicans are as racist as many believe they are there should be numerous examples of black tourists being treated badly there.

Hey man I'm definitely blowing blacks out and there are tons of examples of domicans being rascist.Just look at the history of the island.Torso said it best he looks Haitian and he's shoving cameras around in people faces..The only reason why Taylor made ain't had his ass kicked is because he's American and they tolerate it lol ..Trust and believe if he was Haitian that ass would have definitely gotten stomp day one ...Some shit you don't do in the DR ...be haitain and walk around with ya camera out ..they don't care for it
my last trip there i was in villamella.. For the ones that don't know around the metro area in mamatingo bunch of hatians all over.. I dare to say most dominicans from villa mella has haitian ancestors all black people.... I was walking to the closest fruit stand white shirt flip-flop short looking pretty much haitian I wanted to be low profile outhere... So this 2 lightskin dominicanas just came out the train station walking behind me I did not noticed I was walkin slow pace.... They yell at me: "muévete mardito (dominican slang for maldito) haitiano".... Did I feel offended? No I know I was looking haitian enough so I had it coming.... Like 5 min after I stopped a Chinese place close to the sirena shopping... Who's in there eating the same girls... Now this haitian woman at the entrance starts to talk in French creole but im trying to explain to her im not haitian she insists so i pullout my ID from my neck and show her my Dutch ID and I said espanol, English, or Dutch she laugh said you look haitian.... The 2 girls invited me over to there table and start asking me about where I'm from and how come there are black people there... Lol.. Sounds stupid but I expected all that because Im in the DR. and yes they do look down on most haitian people....

I am black as it comes... People think I'm haitian all the time... What gives me away most of the time in the dr is my spanish accent and my English and some what the way I dress and carry myself... Believe me dominicans has a lot of problem with dark skin... Most of them are dark but denies it.... Moreno and or negro is used every fuckin day.... Among them for me is the same color to them not!... Go ahead look up for this info about their history u will understand.... U are black but u are American... U are either a atm or a passport so they treat u different... But the poor haitian or even their own dark Poor people will be looked down.... Bro it is what it is... I don't agree with none of that....

@Torso..."I looked Haitian so I had it coming."
I really want to blame poor word choice on that quote...because your're dutch?  But that sounds really ignorant and hurts my sense of humanity. I video in the DR and I fly 1st class to the DR sometimes. But I don't think you should see me as ok or above anyone else....or that  other guy as well.  We're all just silly acting people from time to time we can really seem insensitive.

For that I apologize
...I'm usually wrong...but that sh!t was great!

Yeah.. Well basically I was trying to make sure I'm black too... And condemn the way they treat black people especially haitians... But my point is I'm aware that if I go in there deep dr one way or the other I'm gonna
deal with racism just like I deal with it here at home... Just that the dr has this thing deep against haitians man..... History people it will answer a lot of your question about the way Dr treat blacks....

Your average Dominican isn’t really “black,” right? Aren’t they generally a mixture of Hispanic white, African black, and Taino Indian, with the Dominican wealthy classes generally being mostly Hispanic white?

That's the thing about Racism.. its surface detail. Most Racist people just look at a person's differences and come up with many reasons to discriminate or show hatred to that person not know the person's character or where they come from.
There are many Dominicans who have no outside knowledge or education of the world. They haven't traveled like many Americans so seeing a person that "looks" Haitian and not knowing that Marwa is actually from Kenya and have been traveling the world (right now he is in New York) makes them look ignorant. Its like the world is progressing and they are stuck regressing with no real knowledge of their own history or the worlds history.
A good example is like how some black people in america hate all white people not knowing that Irish white and American white or Even German white have completely different views and acceptance on black Americans. And until you travel and or educate yourself you will will be part of that ignorant mindset.

At the end of the day It doesn't excuse their behavior just because they think he's Haitian. It just makes them look ignorant and uneducated.

I actually had a conversation with an "educated" Dominican women about this and she didn't want to accept that at one point the entire country was one land one people until the french and Spanish came over.... again ignorance. Also that video leaves a lot out like Rafael Trujillo and what he did destroy the domincan image.

Def left that out. But it’s clears up a bit of many misconceptions. Not all Dominicans have Afro ancestry, but the light Brown/ Brown / chocolate ones be delusional AF

The Haitian/Dominican divide goes deep. Haitians have experienced descrimination and persecution in the modern era as well as massacres by the Dominicans underneath Trujillo. Also the Dominicans have experienced massacres by Haitians in the Cibao region, as well as the having land taken from individuals, the clergy being expelled and Dominicans being forced to speak creole under the Haitian occupation.  Haiti also invaded 4 times trying to unite the island under Haitian rule to take resources to pay off the French. If you study "true" history, you will see why their is so much hatred on both sides. Not the slant that comes from these SJW's.

Too many times people take the social justice warrior approach to find a villian and victim. Both groups need to move past the past. Time can only do that.

Those historical problems have to be solved between those groups. It is not my place as black American to interject myself in their cultural issues. As a guest in a foreign country I move to remain safe and have a good time. These clowns put a target on their chest and get caught up in their BS.

A lot of members in here kept repeating that the guy looks Haitian because of his complexion. Hence, my question is ? What exactly does an Haitian person looks like?  What about if he was light skin and were born in Haiti? would he still look Haitian or would he be characterize otherwise? Do some of us automatically associate being dark with being Haitian and why?. How do u characterize or determine what a certain nationality looks like? How about all the light skins Haitians living in The Dominican Republic, do they get a pass just because they have a different skin pigmentation?........I Just want to know what exactly do an Haitian person look like?
It's one thing for those characterizations to be coming out of the mouths of Dominicans because some of them do not know any better. But to hear the same comments being repeated over and over by brothers of the same skin pigmentation is very perplexed.

Again , the hate is geared towards illegal Haitian refugees that effect society and not just black folks. Sane way illegal Mexicans that effect society are frowned upon in southern states but not local neighbors Juan & Carlos. Neighbors fine , illegals .....get them outta here
