I normally dont get into the politics of other countries, Im a guest when i travel there and its my choice to travel there knowing the issues. Where not one to talk however, we have our own issues in the states when it comes to racism so pointing fingers is kind of irrelevant. The thing between the Haitians and Dominicans is deep and been going on for a long time and will continue. Lets make it clear Not "all" Dominicans are racist when it comes to blacks. But theres a faction who are, and they tolerate US blacks because we spend money down there. You got one option when it comes to things like this, Dont go! spend your money else where, whining complaining will do nothing!
Ive been watching marwi since he was in colombia, personally i think he was being over dramatic about he incedent, but looking his point of view where he probably havnt been educated on a daily basis in these matters, its shooking to him, but then again whats going on down there is no secret. obviously he hasnt spent much time in the southern united states lol..
People keep asking if I'm back and I haven't really had an answer, but yeah, I'm thinking I'm back.

Dominicans have a long history of racism towards Haitians. If you look speak and act in a way Dominicans could confuse you for Haitian you could be subjected to racism.

In this case acting entitled on top of it got him more than he could handle.

Dominicans in general do not like being disrespected by foreigners visiting their country.

A lot of members in here kept repeating that the guy looks Haitian because of his complexion. Hence, my question is ? What exactly does an Haitian person looks like?  What about if he was light skin and were born in Haiti? would he still look Haitian or would he be characterize otherwise? Do some of us automatically associate being dark with being Haitian and why?. How do u characterize or determine what a certain nationality looks like? How about all the light skins Haitians living in The Dominican Republic, do they get a pass just because they have a different skin pigmentation?........I Just want to know what exactly do an Haitian person look like?
It's one thing for those characterizations to be coming out of the mouths of Dominicans because some of them do not know any better. But to hear the same comments being repeated over and over by brothers of the same skin pigmentation is very perplexed.

Again , the hate is geared towards illegal Haitian refugees that effect society and not just black folks. Sane way illegal Mexicans that effect society are frowned upon in southern states but not local neighbors Juan & Carlos. Neighbors fine , illegals .....get them outta here

You can write all you want in big bold letters but you didn't answer his question. How does a person know just by looking that that person is an illegal? Let be realistic, people are not asking you for paperwork before they decide to show their hatred. Are there Light skinned Haitian living in DR and if so are they getting the same treatment? I doubt that it. The majority of hate Marwa got was from locals and police that never asked him for anything they just acted out. Let not kid ourselves. Dominicans have a underlining hatred for the dark skinned. And you can blame some of this on Rafael who white washed himself and other leaders. And in that ignorance they have associated all dark skinned with 1. Being Haitian 2. Being an illegal Haitian 3. Being negative.

The only reason African Americans have it good in DR is because America has money and we bring a shit ton of it there.

They think he is Haitian. That’s why he is having problems. He is lucky all he got was a slap. This is a deep hatred that spans decades. There is nothing that we can do about this. That’s just how it is. They don’t like Haitians

The undocumented Haitians they hate can be spotted in America as well. I’m Haitian-American , grew up in newark nj, I always get the shocked “ I didn’t know you were Haitian” .....

Reason being most native Haitians or fresh off the boat Haitians, dress a certain way, walk a certain way. Most may not be well kept etc, old clothes etc. it’s not hard to spot a certain type of person.

I bet if he dressed like me and got a clean cut / shape up etc he wouldn’t get harassed, and they wouldn’t think he’s Haitian. It’s all about appearance. No one believes I’m Haitian until i speak a lil creole even the chicas. Same difference.

You can spot a native Jamaican man a mile away.....

Can you or anyone on this board cite an example of racist treatment you or they received while in the DR? If Dominicans are as racist as many believe they are there should be numerous examples of black tourists being treated badly there.

Hey man I'm definitely blowing blacks out and there are tons of examples of domicans being rascist.Just look at the history of the island.Torso said it best he looks Haitian and he's shoving cameras around in people faces..The only reason why Taylor made ain't had his ass kicked is because he's American and they tolerate it lol ..Trust and believe if he was Haitian that ass would have definitely gotten stomp day one ...Some shit you don't do in the DR ...be haitain and walk around with ya camera out ..they don't care for it

I am white and I experience racism everyday,by being expected to pay more then a Dominican for everything especially Taxis

Yup, thats racism. They think because your white you can afford to pay more.....just like the rest of the tourist from other countries regardless of race.

Just say you don't care about racism when it happens to other people and move on. Don't bunch up your panties trying to create false equivalences. It just makes you a troll. A poor one at that .

Now I will agree that the DR elite that are of Spaniard blood...these guys are racist.  The average Dominican is not racist.

The average Dominican does not hate black people...they know that they have African blood in them.  It's simple...they hate Haitians.  Did you know that about 10 years ago the biggest Haitian band in the country had a white Haitian as their lead singer!!!  News flash...not all Haitians are black!!!

As someone posted earlier, their is a long history of Haitians killing Dominicans and Dominicans killing Haitians.  This is sad and this is why most of the people in those 2 countries do not like each other.  This has nothing to do with race but everything to do with history.

When Haitians commit crimes in the DR, it makes the news which only creates more problems.  Now I'm not saying that Haitians create all of the crimes...I'm simply stating that a Haitian committing a crime will get on the news faster than a Dominican creating a crime.  Again, this just fuels the flames of hatred.

Like someone else stated...if you don't like the hatred between the 2 countries, then simply don't go.

I ve left this post alone because I’ve had an experience in the DR that I want to forget about.  I was staying in Jaragua years ago when they had sauna, and steam in the men’s room.  They have since closed down the shower and locker room and steam sauna area.  Well I meant one of those Dominicans of Spaniard decent.  Dude made me feel like an alien greeted me with total disgust and ran out of the locker room.  Now I am not dark by any since I’d say coffee with a lot of creame.  I grew up in America I can remember whites only bathrooms and water fountains at union Station in wash DC.  However I can tell you no white person ever made me feel like that.  I am so glad I just read Bach’s statement.  Because no other Dominican has ever made me feel like that either.  You would meet or see any of these Dominicans of Spaniard descent that act this way.  There more than like not that many left.  I am a regular a Jaragua and I’ve seen upteen parties for those folk at the hotel, cross paths with a few in the salon while getting my hair washed and braided. The younger ones are cool and the older have relaxed a lot.

As for the Haitian population it’s a double edged sword.  While you have a bunch of haitianos hustling, robbing and stealing shit.  You have just as many who work as night security at all of your downtown apartment buildings,  car dealerships stores after they have closed.  They are the majority of your not armed security in the DR.  The others work in construction, and aren’t very well paid but are excellent in what they do.

I will tell a recent story three weeks ago I am hanging out with my X wife who is one those light skinned dominicans.  We were in Boca Chica having dinner and at a table close to us this Hatian Lady was giving a Dominican Guy a proffesional message.  Dude was at the table with family must have been about eight of them.  When the lady finished she asked for her 500 pesos and dude got indignant gave her 100 pesos and said she was hatiana and didn’t diserve any more than that.  Man my X went off she attacked brother man viciously I thought I was going to have to go to war as well to protect what used to be mine.  But dudes family jumped all over him and they gave the lady 1000 pesos and left him there to get cursed by my X.

Most Dominicans are good people, but you still have a few that are fucked up. Just like all everywhere else.

It's true! I'm African American (lighter skinned) but Dominicans think I'm Dominican because it's all about appearances out there. I be all over the island in the hoods and no one ever says anything cuz I blend in! I dont take out my fone and record ppl idk ... Not saying u should have to blend in but if u know the country keep yourself out of avoidable problems. I would say don't bitch about a country and the way they do things  where u know it's bad and corrupt. Charge it to the game or don't go back ....

Come on. Dominicans are all different colors from dark to morena to light just because your light do not think dominicans do not know who you are.  Why people think dominicans are stupid is beyond  me.   I speak Spanish well, but they realize very quickly I am not dominican. Sound a little color conscious.

🤔 I used my complexion as an example of how appearance matter to them. Everybody on this shit swear they know everything lol and when I say they think I'm Dominican it's because I blend in I go to the barbers there and get the 3 stripe in my hair cut amongst other things, so 9 out of 10 ppl I meet in DR comes up to me talking in Spanish and when I tell them no they think I'm lying! And there are moreno Dominicans but if they don't know u your gonna have to proof That! Color matters to them appearance matters that's why they love Jordan's so much appearance
