They can be a lot of fun for in town travel. You can rent some nice ones for only 20 bucks a day I think. The guys name is Oliver and his is right in town near the SeaBreeze Hotel. He's at 809-924-1445 and his bikes are always in good condition. Where ever you rent from make sure all the front and rear lights are working first and this wil give you a good idea of how well the scooter has been taken care of.

$20.00 that seems very expensive compared to what I'm used to paying in the tourist hot spots of Thailand where most other expenses would appear to be at a similar level to Sosua, especially and most importantly accomodation and shagging.

@Pentire you could walk instead of complaining about $20 a day. Or get a taxi.

In Sosua, be especially careful when renting a scooter and check it out real good before you drive off on it. Also driving in the DR is to say the least a little different so be careful. If you rent one for the day, and have a few places you want to ride around and see then fine, but I would highly suggest that you do NOT keep the scooter overnight. Just imagine parking your rented scooter, going up to your room with a sweet chica for a little pleasure only to wake up in the morning and find that your scooter is GONE. You would be responsible financially for the scooter, and sure you can get insurance but this is the DR, and all i would say to that is GOOD LUCK.

My suggestion is to use carro publico or simply hop on a moto for 40 pesos.. Cheaper, easier, and safer.

Scooters are necessary in Sosua.

Thank you for stating the glaringly obvious options RRR I appreciate that.

And happily the hotel rented us a scooter for significantly less than $20.00 per day.
I say we because my wingman and I were very contented to share the bike or take it in turns to ride pillion during our two week Sosua vacation, but even then some days the Yamaha remained unused when we were content to entertain our chosen chicas at poolside.

While renting a scooter most certainly makes like easier, I would not say they are totally necessary with all the many hundreds of motor concho riders available in all public areas at 50 pesos a journey.
During your night march unless alcohol is not in attendance or you are able to park in a secure environment I strongly recommend the $2000.00 bike stays safely locked away under the supervision of the hired guards at your accomodation.
