Good and cheap usually don't go together when it comes to food. How about start with good and look for someplace where you can afford.

I used to get good cheap pickem lobsters on Duarte in Boca Chica back in the day.  That may be still available but its been awhile since I have had a dinner in Boca Chica. When I got to Sosua that all changed prices are Americanized you won't find good cheap seafood in Sosua.  You may get a good fish dinner on the beach, but make sure you pick the fish before its cooked.  Cabarete has the better restaurants you can get quality seafood there but its not cheap.

look for a place called Sinatra's, it's a nice restaurant along the main strip near the After One Casino. The food/sea food there is pretty good. And 2 days a week they have a special, buy one entree and get another one free. I believe the days are Wednesday and Fridays. But the special is only for a limited time of the day....like from 6:00 - 8:00p.m....if someone knows the exact times, please correct me.

Is it just me or does the lobster in the DR not taste as good as on the East Coast.  I think that the Maine lobster is much sweeter than the lobster in the DR.  Let me know if anyone from the East Coast has had lobster that tastes as good as Maine lobster.  If so, please give us the name of the restaurant and city.

Brooklyn, did you have lobster at Sinatra's?

Coming from the midwest, I'm a meat and potatoes type of guy but I definitely love my East Coast seafood.

Bachatero I have been to the Maine Lobster Fest several times and I can't find any lobster anywhere in the world that is quite as good as the freshly caught lobsters they serve in Maine or along the eastern seaboard. However, I have gotten lobsters from a fisherman right on the beach near Soles in Bavaro. Each time I got a great rate on the lobster and I had it prepared by either a chica in my condo, the cook at Jellyfish restaurant or my buddies who work at Don Pio restaurant. The finished dish was good each time. I also get fresh large red snapper from the same guy. I usually pay around 150 pesos per pound for the snapper and 250 pesos per pound for the lobster. I buy from him any time I'm in town so he cuts me good deals. I call him up and he will bring it to my condo and clean it right there so it's ready to be cooked.

Skeeter:  I've eaten at Jellyfish and enjoy the food, but mostly the location.  Could you PM me the fisherman's name and phone number?  My guess is my golfing buddies would enjoy fresh fish or lobster.  We will be staying at a hotel around Ave. Espana this year, so we won't have an apartment.

I've eaten at the other restaurants around Don Pio, but I've never eaten at Don Pio.  It has good reviews, so I'll have to try it out.  Jellyfish is more for that romantic GF dinner spot.  Also, how much did Don Pio charge to cook it?  Thanks for your help bro!

Bachatero and anyone else who might visit the area, his name is Samuel. His number is (809) 989-3523.  He is often at Glady's restaurant at the corner by Barcelo Dominican Beach but he walks up and down the beach. Tell him where you are and he will bring the seafood to you.

Bachatero my bad. I forgot to respond to one of your questions. Don Pio is my favorite spot in Bavaro for everyday eating. I have befriended the entire staff including the owners there so they didn't officially charge me anything for cooking the lobster. I slid the cook 500 pesos for it, though. When you go ask for Herminio. He's the manager there and will take great care of you. They also have live music on Friday night so if you want to do a little dancing go on Friday. It's a great time. Citrus on the end of the plaza is my other go to restaurant. I'm pretty tight with both the Dominican manager and the Haitian assistant manager. If you prefer Citrus I can set it up for them to do the food prep for you, also.
