There is a recent thread on this, but while there may be less selection in Sosua, there are still plenty of chicas around. And if you are into checking out Blackbeard's, there will be more or less the same limited (but quality) selection of chicas as at other times in the year.
I put off my first trip to the DR several times over the course of a year. When I finally got there, I was kicking myself for not going sooner. Now I don't go anywhere else.

Cool.  Thanks Brotha Kubrick!  I don't mind dropping pesos at the bar during the day, but if it's "lights out" at midnight, I'm going to need something to keep my party rolling.  BBs here I come!

That is an interesting topic MrT. I did not look yet but maybe there is thread about it here.

I also thought of this and did a bit of research. I admit I was scared off a bit, especially when it comes to buying property in the DR. It seems that many gringos do that without understanding the implications, and are $orry for it. There is a ton of info on this, but I like videos of one guy on youtube (Andy Graham/hobotraveler). He is a former commercial real estate broker. He and other sources point out the importance of an extended stay (like three months) prior to making any decisions. It seems like common sense, but a broader point that people often make is that if your experience with the DR is just on vacation (and on a vacation budget), it is a whole different game to live there. For me, I know it would be easy to get "lost" between the chicas and the booze.

Oh without question, I would rent first !
I have been doing some research. It does appear though, that there are a fair amount of Ex Pats living there, and living there on about $2,000 - $3500 per month. That's pretty damn good IMHO.

Mr.Tesch; If you can live without A/C and take the heat and humidity you will live there OK. I am from the Great White North (no Hoser jokes please) and not take it after April. Electricity is expensive, they use a consumption multiplier system. For simplicity how this works is, first 100 KWH'S set rate, second 100 KWH'S DOUBLE THAT, third 100 X 3 and so on. This is just a rough explanation, but you get the drift of it I hope. A local might pay 10-15 dollars a month a gringo might pay $200/mo. in July for A/C.

The cost for A/C usage was for a small apartment 4-500 square feet.

Yeah, I think it would be important to develop a completely different mindset after moving there. Lots of guys have retired there at 64 or 65 and then got caughtr up in multiple pregnancies. the No. 1 advice from expats is to get a vasectomy about a year before you move down. Unlimited pussy can be a dangerous thing.
Women need a reason to have sex. Men just need a place. Sosua will do just fine.
