@DeeDaDon,

You sound like one dude on this forum (I forget his name) who keeps a small apartment in one of the barrios. He said he has been doing it so long now that a couple locals look out for his place when he is back in the states. And the chicas give him local rates.

I want to be like that dude when I grow up.

me too lol

Don't stay in places with Gringos!

I have a 1 bedroom off the strip that is nicer than some of the dumps I've stayed in at Europa. It's $400 per month everything included and I run AC 24/7 with private internet. Chicas come by and tell me I live like a Dominicano. Haven't paid Gringo prices in 2 weeks and I smash everyday.

Get off the strip and suddenly your price for everything drops!

Excellent tips! I only bring my ipad & iphone, but everything that won't fit in a safe goes in the suitcase & is locked whenever a chica is there. I also have a camera that looks like a regular household item. Works great, but if the wifi or power go out, it's a bitch to reset, so I only brought it once.

Last 2 visits I was there I took my iPhone XS Max with me,,, used everywhere, from discotecas to malecons to even in the hood,,,, I get some looks but nothing that makes me worry about my phone being snatched 🤷🏻‍♂️

As far as laptop, I have an apple Mac pro that I carry with me too,,, I normally stay at my main’s houses or at resorts, so leaving it out in the open as was never an issue

Hint: always watch out for the 2 or 3 dudes riding in one moto 🏍

Sometimes if I am chilling in a barroom with my gente, if I see 2 Chicos in one moto passing by, I put my phone away and so my people do,,, almost always, it takes more than one to do a crime in RD

So, if I am fine in the barrios with my new iPhone,,,, y’all should totally be good in sosua

That's some golden advice right there, 2 guys on a moto is a potential threat in any latin american county

Dude an apartment here is for a month is cheaper than what I was paying when I came down here as a tourist for one week. I'm play $400 per month includes everything with private internet. The same chicas come by my spot and show respect became I live like a Dominicano. My place is nicer than some of the dumps I've stayed in at Europa. But you won't see a single Gringo in my neighborhood despite being 10 minutes from the strip.

Get off the stripe and tourist hotels and you will start paying like Dominicanos if you can speak Spanish! I haven't paid Gringo prices in a few weeks.

Embrace the culture take cold showers and instead of spending $10,000 pesos per day your cost will drop and your quality will go up!

Interesting! Great tip. I am going to explore that. Thanks Briancoco.

Tip the Guard to your compound upon checking in. Tell him you want to make sure any departing females you will clear first. I always take the girl down never let her roll on her own.  I mix business an pleasure trips so I lock my laptop tablet etc in my suitcase. If i do not trust the safe in the room I use a combo lock and one of these.

Best investment ever made as I travel to some shitty places where the hotel staff can be questionable.  They see that lock and know that if they fuck with it I will know.

I totally agree with the Milocke Safe Lock. I’ve had mines for 5 years now.

Milocke Safe Lock is cool but a determined robber with the keypad combination could still get into your safe in minutes -- even with the Milocke attached. But Milocke is a deterrent for housekeepers and such. One thing Hotel Europa does is keep all safe information with their locksmith in Puerto Plata. Europa claims that in an emergency, only the locksmith from Puerto Plata can get into the safe, and it's usually a 24-hour turnaround.

Because of that, at Europa I am more concerned about locking myself out of the safe than having a break-in. And that's why I don't use the safes at Europa.

You’re right, a determined thief can break through the milocke lock but it’s more of a deterrent to the maids, handyman and hotel clerks who want to skim some cash of the top quickly and unnoticed.

LOL. Funny video. What I may do is use Milocke as a dummy lock. I actually won't put my high end stuff and cash in the safe, but hotel employees (and hopefully others) will assume all my shit is in the hotel safe. Little do they know that I carry portable safes that I hide inside my golf bag. They are secured to the golf bag by steel cables. Then the golf bag itself is enclosed in a big golf travel bag.

I lock big stuff like laptops in my luggage.
