Hiding Whatsapp on your Phone
« on: January 07, 2019, 12:51:52 PM »
So you have a significant other but you are just back with 50 new Whatsapp contacts, many of them with sexy messages and pictures. What do you do to keep Whatsapp confidential?

Do you destroy all the pictures and text?

Do you move all the files to Dropbox?

Delete WhatsApp until next time?

My SO rarely handles my phone, and she has no idea what Whasapp is. But if she ever clicked on that icon ....

Ugh, ya one thing I hate is that on iPhones at least that your WhatsApp contacts are integrated with your normal contacts. I have a whole bunch of people with normal American first names and last names, and then probably close to 50 Dominican chicas with only first names. I have a Julisa, a Julissa, and a Yulissa for crying out loud. Most Americans have probably never met even one Yulissa in their lives, let alone three.

I’m single so I don’t have to worry about a nosy SO/spouse, but I keep my phone guarded even with friends and dates. Shit is on lockdown.

I really wish WhatsApp contacts could be isolated from normal ones.

Yeah, I have a burner phone but my main cell has free international calling and text. I guess one solution would be to transition Whatsapp to the burner and just take them both when I travel to the DR.

Download the "vault" app. You can hide and lock whatsapp or any app on your phone you want to hide. You can also hide any contacts or pictures. You can set it up to look like a calculator app on your phone and everything will stay hidden until you enter the password in the calculator

I take my spare IPhone and go by Orange and buy me a sims card and some data for the amount of time that I am there. You will need your passport but it only cost about 500  pesos . When you leave you can remove the sims card and put the old one back in.

If you visit more than a couple of times a year and you want to hide WhatsApp I recommend getting a second used phone for use on the island. With the DR SIM card in the phone you can still send and receive messages via WhatsApp no matter where your at as long as you have an internet connection. My understanding is that you can setup an IPhone so that it’s not sharing data with your other Apple equipment. All my shit is connected and even though I’m aware of it I’ll still be slightly surprised when a photo I took on the island with the spare phone shows up on my Mac at home.

I have an android and use the "secure folder" for all of my extracurricular activities. It works great, separate contacts list, separate apps, separate data storage (e.g., search history, photos, google translate history), etc.  It's like having 2 phones in 1, and I can toggle between them by showing my fingerprint.

If you are married and planning to use an iPhone, I recommend getting a divorce lawyer too.  iPhones are notorious for snitching and leaking photos into the damn iCloud.  Invest in the Android burner phone and save yourself the headache.  Just hide it at work, your boy's house, or somewhere she can't "accidentally" find it.

Thanks for the tip guys. I've decided to use my Galaxy S7 as my burner for the DR. I have free international calling through Sprint on my Note 9 but can flip the numbers before heading to the DR.  Or I may take them both. I like traveling with my best technology. At home I pretty much leave the S7 tucked away and it never draws any attention from the SO.

Since you like the Android, buy a BLU.  It will cost 95 bucks on eBay brand new.  You can put whatsup, google and any Icon you want on it. Set it up with altice and tour passport.  Buy 500 pesos of minutes and you can use it for the duration of your stay.  With WiFi you can use all the other functions free.  It also has a beautiful camera and the pics don’t go to the cloud.

BLU? Heard of them but never tried it. I'll take a look. Thanks!

Question, I got an old locked AT&T phone.  I should be able to throw a prepaid Sim in there from AT&T  and still be able to use WhatsApp on there with the new number but only on WiFi right?

Correct. I would try to get the phone unlocked. AT&T will probably say "nah", but try. I have tried many times and they always say no with little explanation. It's free if you ultimately get it unlocked.
