Using a credit card there
« on: November 08, 2018, 07:48:10 AM »
Just wondered if everywhere there is a 20% up charge to use a credit card ? Reason being any time I ran out of money at black beards  I was charged  $120 for a $100 in cash.

Why not just hit up an ATM?? Or are you doing cash advances on a credit card?

I could use an atm but I was told they don’t always work and the fees are high when they do.

Sounds like you needed $100 in cash? Blackbeards charged you $120 and then pulled $100 out of their drawer? As another poster said, better to use an ATM. For a debit card transaction the fees are about what you would pay in the states. Many guys on this board hit a local ATM every day in Sousa to get their monger money for the day.
Women need a reason to have sex. Men just need a place. Sosua will do just fine.

BB charges that 20% to discourage credit card use. They prefer to deal in cash but have that option open in case someone has no money.  I'm surprised they let you take cash out when running as credit but I guess if they are taking 20% there is no reason not too.

If you really want to access your money there and pay nothing in charges the best bet is a Charles Schwab checking account. As long as you have an average 10K balance there is zero cost monthly, no foreign transaction fees and they refund 100% of ATM charges worldwide that other banks tack on.

I checked with chase as well and they said the same thing but you have to be a chase private client which I was but not anymore. I don’t have a problem with 3% that’s fair just hope there is an option for English on the screen lol

I use the ATM at Jenny's market, but I do take a credit card with me. Not for planned use but just in case. BBs charges you up the ass for using a credit card. I thought it was 18% but just as likely it is 20% by now.

If BB is still taking credit cards at all consider yourself lucky. Santo Domingo is  including claims of money laundering in the cases they are using to close down many of these places and in that business their can be nothing worse than hordes of credit card charges that you need to defend and prove these are legit charges for services and not being used to launder cash. With  cash transactions they dont's have to deal with the added trail of the electronic transacion.

Regarding the thread question my suggestion is only use a CC in case of emergency. If you don't want to keep your cash stash on you just western union cash to yourself. It will cost a little more but much safer than letting your CC number  start circulating in the DR system. Use it long enough and the card number will be copied and used for sure.
