Cash Society
« on: October 21, 2018, 08:15:17 AM »
I ran into an American couple who didn’t bring enough cash from home. Apparently they have never traveled to an area that was primarily cash. We figured out that we bank at the same bank in the USA so he was able to quickly transfer $500 into my account and I gave him that much as soon as the notification came through and verified. That said $500 won’t last long down here, and that’s all I had to spare, so where does one go to get cash down here? I always bring more than enough.

Just reminded me of a chica I knew asked me to change some money for her because she knew i travelled in the region, she said it was One Hundred Dollars.

I laughed a little when she showed me, and then she went a little pale when I typed 100 Jamaican Dollars into the exchange app and showed her is was about 40 pesos.

One of you bandits pulled a fast one on the poor girl.

I bank with Navy Federal and used a phone (mine doesn’t work) to call and verify the transfer. You can call Navy Federal collect from anywhere in the world and they have a live person talk to you 24/7 which is nice. I saw them again today at the beach and they thanked me. They said Navy Federal was going to wire them money tomorrow (whatever that means).

If you have your debit or credit cards you can get cash from ATM  machines. The machines accept AMEX, Visa snd Mastercard.

If you do not have your debit or credit cards in person but know the number you can create a western union account online and transfer yourself money online. This can be done from the DR too. Then go to the nearest WU location and pick up the cash.

I saw the couple this morning and they said they would like me to give them more money and do the same thing again. You folks made me think, so I declined and said I didn’t have any extra money left. It started to feel strange, especially since they stated the bank was going to wire them money today. Navy Fed is always open and it seems strange they wouldn’t already have it waiting for them at 8 or 9 this morning when Western Union opens. Perhaps I am cynical.

You may wanna cue up Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal", cuz that shit smells fishy.. They should b able 2 walk into any bank and use their debit card as a credit card and withdraw U.S. dollars, theres a small fee but it beats walkin up 2 strangers..

When it comes to money, I don't play.
That couple could have called friends from home and had them wired them some money.
there is no reason to ask strangers in a strange land for cash.

If you have a credit card or debit card you can go inside the bank and take out up to your credit limit. I did it the first time down there I didn't bring enough money to fully enjoy myself so I took out $1500 from my account no problem.
