Other than "working in a lab" what are your specific health care practitioner qualifictions? I ask that since you are offering medical advice.

Let's state facts from sources:

Key points

Many people enjoy giving and receiving oral sex – kissing, licking or sucking another person’s genitals.
The risk of getting HIV from performing oral sex on someone living with HIV is very low.
HIV is not passed on in saliva – there have been no transmissions involving someone with HIV performing oral sex.

Can I get HIV from a blowjob? From giving head? From getting a BJ? Or from swallowing semen?

Oral sex is "low risk" in terms of getting HIV.
There is no transmission risks for receiving oral sex. You probably will not get HIV from giving oral sex either—but having cuts or sores in your mouth, gum disease, having an STI in your throat, or recent dental work increases your risk. If any of these applies, you may consider refraining from performing oral sex to reduce your of exposure to HIV. If you're taking PrEP every day as prescribed, there's very little that you'll get HIV by giving someone a blowjob, or otherwise.

In general, there is little to no risk of getting or transmitting HIV from oral sex. Theoretically, transmission of HIV is possible if an HIV-positive man ejaculates in his partner’s mouth during oral sex. However, the risk is still very low, and much lower than with anal or vaginal sex.

Street eazy is right, I work in a lab.

If you get head from a HSV-1 positive person and she transmits the virus and you get infected, you will have HSV-1. Lets say you actually develop a sore/blister on your penile shaft because of that encounter. You can request IgG antibody assays to differentiate between the different types of the simplex virus.. Once you get your results back you will test POSITIVE for HSV-1 only. Genital herpes is a viral infection that affects the "genital area." So it can be from both subtypes.

I concur.  Street Eazy is right.  I have the medical literature right here and just so happen to be reading about the shit.  HSV-1 and HSV-2 are not exclusive to one part of the body.  But as Doctor Optimus pointed out.  Herpes is herpes no matter the type.  But Doc Optimus is fear mongering.  He used stats after stats and when they were thrown back at him he said, aww you know... those stats can't be trusted because of racism and white privilege...  My educational background includes Medical field related shit.
At the end of the day, grown men will do what they do regardless of what stats or facts or any other shit is thrown in their face.

I'm with James.  No need to post my credentials on an anonymous board.  You're going to believe what you want regardless of what I show or tell you.  I will give you this screen shot from the medical literature I am reading.  I do believe you are confused Fuente because we are talking about HSV not HIV.  I see you posted HIV info and if you look closely StreetEasy and James both referred to HSV

Thanks for the screen shot. My point is that if a poster is going to provide medical advice on an "anonymous" board -- any medical information -- then he should state his medical credentials or reference a source -- as you just did by posting a source.

I mean, anybody can wade in here and just shoot from the hip. All I am saying is that when it comes to sexual health, state your background or your source. Both can be done anonymously. There is nothing revealing in saying, "I am a medical intern at an Ivy League school."

I have always been taught that, in lieu of a source, credentials matter. Medical credentials, whether as a lab technican or a Doctor of Medicin, are an incredible accomplishment. Stated credentials qualify a person to offer expert advice.

On a board like this it is easy to anonymously site background and credetials when offering medical advice that could affect someone's life. That is why I am always suspect when someone offers such important information while not disclosing their credentials or a source.

That said, I do appreciate your response.
