Just so you guys are aware, US Customs can confiscate your phones and search them.

@ All    Unless you have pictures of underage children you have nothing to worry about and if you do , You deserve to get caught. In 12 trips in the last 12 years , Customs has not asked me anything but where I am coming from, one female agent ask me if had girlfriend there said no Amiga. She asks what is an amiga, I say like a girlfriend but can have more than 1, just smiled as she handed me my passport.

I've gotten drilled by agents leaving and coming back into the USA.  Once when I traveled often to Cali, Colombia 20 years ago during the cartel drug wars and then again this year as I was leaving for the DR from Miami.

So it has happened only twice in 20 years of travel.  The key is to be respectful, answer the questions truthfully, and eventually they will get tired of asking questions.  If you lie to a Federal Agent, they can arrest you on the spot.  So when they ask you if you have ever been arrested, you need to tell them the truth...even if you were found not guilty or they dropped the charges.

Just being informative, my neighbor got grilled coming back from Sosua because he traveled three times during the year. I didn't really post it thinking about people having crap in there phone, I just did it because my neighbor got grilled travelling back and they had him in a room grilling him for almost two hours. So i looked it up my self to see if they could do that and hold some one for that long. So just being informative.

I learned first hand not to play around with Customs.   I had returned back to the US from DR and the agent asked me what I was doing in DR.   I was still on my natural high from all those fine ladies and I said something to the effect of "Mucho chica's" or something like that instead of just saying "vacation".   I found myself sitting with a group of other individuals that were being held for further questioning.   I quickly realized my error in judgement real fast.  Thankfully I made my connecting flight.

yeah, got a few custom stories myself.

one time got pulled off for a check and the agent asked to see my phone, unlocked. - was informed that I could refuse but would be held for further questioning.

I have nothing to hide, unlocked it and handed it over.  they went through everything - photos, contacts, videos, past calls, messages, etc..

if you've anything sensitive on your device that you don't want others seeing, photos, contacts, docs, .. whatever.. either don't take your phone or have a travel phone.  or if its underage shite - keep it all on and hopefully you get screened, caught, and bunked up with a 400 lb bi - curious lifer.

other times get pulled over and they empty my luggage, go through everything - pockets inside out, containers opened, then my bag goes for a drug swab, then I get to pack it all up and hope to find my connection.

multiple times had the drug dog conveniently circle around me a few times -  one time had another dude post up beside me waiting at the luggage carousel and that dude was strung out - worse than me.. sure enough, a door opens and out comes the guy with the dog. they make their way over to us and the dog sits down beside my new buddy, - off he goes.  they brought the dog over to me but I don't touch the ganja, or other, so no problems.

what I've learned - don't pull an all nighter and party like a rockstar the day before you leave.  I find the frequency of getting chosen for further analysis is reduced if I don't look like a wreck, can form full sentences, and don't reek of alcohol

Funny last year I was coming back to the states through Santo domingo. But I had just jumped off that cold ass Late Caribe tour bus running for the boarding gate.I had on a thick heavy grey Nike hoody which might have been some sort of red flag to them. I present my passport and RIGHT AWAY! They took me in the room for a full body X-ray.. Asking me shit in Spanish on the lines of why do I have so many Dominicana entry stamps and why do I use different Airports coming on the island, who do I know here, DID I SWALLOW COCAINE IN PILL FORM. Once they did the X-ray they let me go but was super upset I was clean. So just keep it clean you will be fine. But trust they are there working both sides of the boarder.

I have a story, but it is not about US Customs but the DR customs.  I was leaving POP, and going through security.  I always bring more money than I need, because if my trip is super litt I don’t want to hit up ATM’s.  So I was coming back to the USA with about $1k.  The Dominican TSA dude saw that and asked me to come to this back room.  I know I don’t have anything on me, so I don’t really care, but you never know.  You see and hear things.  He makes me go through this X-ray machine, and then asks me all these questions.  Finally he asks me for a gift...smh.  Giving a cop in the USA is a crime, so I’m not sure if this is a trap, but then I remember where I am.  I just wanted to get out of there so I gave him like 300 pesos.  If I would have said no, who knows what would have happened.  He could have planted something on me, so I just paid the shake down and got out of there.
