What NOT to bring in Checked baggage
« on: February 06, 2019, 05:13:31 PM »
So without writing an entire trip report I just wanted to point out my experience last week flying back out of STI (2/2/19).

After checking my bag with Delta and going the personal security (which I was checked there also) we were waiting at our gate having a Nathans Dog and beer when they called my name on the speaker. I was not exactly sober coming back and didn't hear it but one of my guys did and let me know. I head to the counter and show my boarding pass (1st class) and they tell me to go to gate B3 to have my luggage inspected.

First I was not worried as anything I may or may not have done illegally was left at the villa in the Su. I get down the gate and realized I needed my passport...back upstairs to find my backpack my boy was holding to retrieve and head back down. Now prior to getting to the airport I did NO packing as in folding anything it was one of the mornings where your calling a taxi for the chica the night before while packing your shit for the airport in the last 30mins so it was a MESS!

He started folding/packing my bag 1 item at a time and I start thinking SHIT this may be worth my time.. It was at this point he comes across a pair of Blue Fuzzy handcuffs I used the week before with multiple chicas....I start laughing and telling him in English they are fake. I don't think he understand and the chica working with him who was next to me did not understand either. Needless to say the chica talks the security inspector into calling there supervisor to get it checked out... I am still laughing as I have about 10 others watching this episode and the last 20mins my flight is boarding. The chica looks at me with the supervisor there and says "You polica?", I tell her no (both security and supervisors are watching and listening) I place my wrists together and raise above my head and say "Freaky Freaky"....She starts blushing and smiling say oh yea, oh yeah? The supervisor and security guy laugh for a minute and shake there heads while giving me the ok to board the plane back to the states.

So if you plan to bring some toys and accessories, be prepared to deal with the funny bullshit. And don't bring REAL handcuffs. They did inspect them and to see if they were for play or I lifted them off a local (I think anyway)..

Yeah, it's February, but ... story of the year!
I am a voracious reader, news junkie and learner of the Dominican Republic culture and lifestyle. My recommendations, posts and reviews are my own. No one in the D.R. has ever paid or comped me to do shit.

Lmfao

They did that to me a year ago at STI as well,,,
u had to walk downstairs and to ur left right?
They had a little table and start unpacking my bags

When I used to have 4 Main chicas in RD, It was all for a vibrator my main #3 gave me “small one that looks like a bullet”

She used it the same day and came all over it and gave it to me to remember her 🙄

I was just gonna reach back home, take a pic with it and tell her how much I miss her toto then trash it 🗑 ,,,, the guy was holding it, after I explained it was a toto vibrator, he threw it on the table and start smelling his hands 🤣🤣🤣

Just as embarrassing to stop at the security scanner and put all your change in the "kidney" dish, go through and have the lady hand you the dish with your change and see...you had a condom packet in with your change.

I got 7 suite cases in my two mains casas lol

I got enough clothes and shoes with them

But I always bring my book pag “large” and my carry-on “duffel bag” and put some fresh clothes and a few shoes to replace some of the clothes and shows there and take the ones I replaced back with me with the same book bag and duffel bag “carry-on” so I don’t get charged for checked bags 😅

One of the many perks of having a main chica in ur stable 😋

This is part of a U.S. DEA policy to push countries to target intervening drug mules at the origin airport. I would not recommend  taking these stops too lightly. Keep in mind when you are dealing with the inspectors that are going through your luggage you are on a razor thin line of being on your way to your planned destination or being a guest in a Dominican jail until they sort out whatever they think you may have done. For anyone who has made an enemy in the airport or have a beef with someone with some clout this is a prime opportunity for you to be setup and you will basically have no defense.

I travel to the DR every few weeks and a couple years ago it got to the point where every time I entered the airport(STI or POP) about five minutes after I cleared security they would be calling my name for the inspection. I always got through the inspection with no problem but I got real paranoid about the stops and took a few months off from going down. Since I renewed my trips I have only been stopped once. My paranoia was not because I was doing anything wrong it's just because my personal belief is any sustained interaction with Dominican authorities which you do not have a relationship of some sort with is general going to end badly for the expat. Badly could be as simple as a propina shakedown up to long term detention.

Stop checking bags. You should be able to live a week out of a 38L backpack. 38L is alot by the way. You save hella time and save hella money.
Took a while... got the jokers out of the deck now

I agree, but my Hitachi takes up so much space...and [I get to hide my embarassment] when it's in checked baggage.
