30 PESOS  local brand
Started to ask what are common prices for goods in the newbie section (e.g. Bottle of water ~ 50 pesos) but since you bring it up...Humor me Mr Tug

I was dissapointed this morning.   I had breakfast at New Garden. The price of the food is cheap, but they did not have any of the meat I usually eat.  But still they charged me full price.  I ordered a glass of pineapple juice.  I get a small glass of juice fit for a 6yr old, full of ice to boot.  150 pesos?   About 4 ozs of juice and the rest ice.   Whereas if you buy a quart of the same juice in the colmado, it's about 90 pesos.   It's little shit like that, that I dont like about dining out.

In the states, a local Spanish restaurant me , my buddy and his wife go to, a pitcher of Sangria costs $37 USD.  And just like any other beverage served these days, the pitcher is full of ice.   I can deal with food being a little pricy.  But I hate paying a grip for drinks and beverages, and getting it in a little glass.   In some cases, I'll drink my beverages later.   Rather than getting gipped on paying for drinks.   At least give a muthablubba a large glass of beverage, even if it is full of ice.   I'd respect the hustle more.

Where you stand on the issue depends on where you sit.  The words enough, some, many , to whom it applies to, does not mean ALL of any people, places or things.  If you cant, dont or wont learn from friends, family or your peers, dont worry the locals will teach you, and you will learn the hard way.

Sunday April 21, 2024 about 10:30am

Across the street from New Garden restaurant was a handful of chicas looking for work.  One in particular was Caroline.  She is the chick that got into a fight with another chick last year, ended up stabbing the other chick in her back.  The other chick got the knife and started cutting her up too.

They both went to the hospital that day/night.   Hadnt seen her since that incident.

The rest of the chicks were an assortment of halfway decent looking chicks mixed with a few whales.  Some of the whales were old vets that blew up over the years.  I recall when they were newbies on the scene.  Now they are Sosuas veterans.

A bunch of dudes in the restaurant were eyeballing this one short chick who had a super round surgical ass.   Is that what they call BBL?    She dropped her ID off at the desk, then crossed the street with an enormous dude.   All the cats in the restaurant were looking at this chick in amazment because of her gigantic round ass.

They seemed to be envying the guy for what he was about to do with that chick.    I watched as the two of them did the walk of shame across to the new section, with her shorts stuck in the crack of her big ass cheeks.  But thats the style.  I personally think it makes some chicks look stank.

Anyway, about 20 minutes later, dude was escorting her back to get her ID, and they parted company.   Damn, that must have been a world record session.  Or no session at all.  Was it even worth it?   I wonder how much she got him for?

Sunday & Monday the 21 and the 22 were both beautiful days in Sosua.

Sunny and dry.   Monday I made it to the beach.  Was there until about 6pm.  Even had a few locals coming to the beach as couples and families.  Come to think about it, I think the banks and schools may have been closed yesterday.

It appears to be a decent number of guys in town.   I think it's always going to be that way for a while.  Because a number of guys over the years have fell in love with vacationing in Sosua.   As well as guys renting apartments, retiring and now living in or close to Sosua.

A lot of guys love renting those 4 wheelers in town.   And a few opt to rent a pasola/scooter.   You can tell some cats dont usually ride pasolas/scooters just by how awkward they look on them.

The main thing is, the 40% chance of rain for the area has been kept under wraps.   The weather for the last two days has been gorgeous.    And today, Tuesday the 23rd.....it looks like it may also be another beautiful day.

Had my Red Snapper 2 for 1 ( 2 small fish making up 1lb ) veggies, yellow rice, and a tiny salad.   With one bottle of water 950 pesos.    I was only able to eat half of it.   The rest I can eat for lunch today.     I can remember when a fish meal at the beach was only 300 pesos.   But of course, the exchange rate then was much much lower.

Compared to the USA, 800 to 1200 pesos for a fried fish meal is a bargain.   Not much of a bargain from a locals perspective.   Only certain DR locals will spend that much at the beach.   Where I was in the states was a local restaurant that serves fried fish and chicken.

Very popular in my neighborhood ( In the states ).   They have a special.  2 fried pieces of catfish, 3 wings, one side item ( macaroni salad or potato salad or yellow rice or fries ), and a 12oz can of soda/iced tea/water.   For $10.50      Aside from it not being considered a healthy meal, just the price and taste alone makes it seem like a bargain.

There's also a Dominican restaurant in my old neighborhood ( in the states ) that my buddy turned me on to.   I got a meal from there 2 weeks ago.   Rice and beans, baked chicken, cabbage with sweet bananas.  Only $10.    Food was very tasty and good portions.   On the beach in Sosua that same meal may cost more.   Including the price of beverages, and an expected tip.

On the strip, unless Im treating myself, I try to avoid the venues that charge the 28% tax on the bill.   One thing that has evolved in the service industry ( Sosua particularly ), is how restaurants are making more money on how they serve beverages.  Using smaller glasses, using more ice, and jacking the prices up.

When I was on the beach yesterday,  I bought a bottle of water from the restaurant I ate at.   But I also went to the small colmado on the beach and bought lemonade and carrot juice.   75 pesos for each 16oz cup.   Guy didnt even put ice in the cup because it was already very cold.

Now, how can I a Sosua vet, justify drinking a beverage from somewhere else at the restaurant Im eating at?   Simple.  Im good with the owner.  I always bring business to his establishment.  Plus, if you look around, there are vendors on the beach stopping by restaurants selling food to customers dining at these restaurants.   What a slap in the face.

And the owners dont say anything about that.   Plus I tip extra even though there is a service charge of 10% on the bill.    Im not in the US, so I know I have some flexibility in how I can operate at some venues.    I dont make it a habit.    I generally wont be doing that at Kings/Rumba or other places on the strip.

Wish I could help, but I havent kept up with taxi prices over the years.  And I havent used a taxi to get around on the north coast for years.   The only thing I know as of the 16th of April, is that the taxi ride from POP to Sosua is $25.   As per the price board outside of the terminal.

In my early days of visiting, I took the chance of renting cars in Sosua to avoid using taxis, and so I could go wherever I want.   I have a buddy from the states who rents a vehicle when he comes to the DR.   His pretend GF lives in PP.    When he's done with the car, the renter drops him off at the airport.

Take a "Publico", public taxi. One of my chicas works late on Fri. Sat. nights (11:00 pm), takes a "publico" from P.P. Pays 500 p.to my door, which technically they are not suppose to do, ( supposed to stay on fixed route, Hyw# 5). A 100 p. will get you to Cabarete in a publico taxi, 50 P. for the Gua Gua (local bus).

As Murano stated the airport price is $25 US, I use pesos, so it was 1,400 last month. Had to stay one night at Europa (my place for the month was not ready). Next day ( same driver) took me to my place,(help me in), the Super Playero for shopping (waited) and back to my place (carried shopping) for 1,000 p.His name is Johnny Taxi, 1 809 815 5172.

April 24th 2024.   Sosua El Batey

65 yr old black expat found dead sitting in a chair on his balcony.   Cancer and/or heart failure most likely the cause.   Left behind a Haitian girlfriend, and a daughter he had with her.  Was supporting them both with his retirement funds.  He lived alone.  Without him alive, all support will cease for the Haitian lady and the daughter.     Unclear if he had relatives in the states to contact.
