Yes I catch the last bus the evening before my flight out of Sosua...Sosua is finished for me, no need to stay to the last minute...I stay at Platino in Santiago and leave from Santiago with no problem flight day.

I’m leaving at the end of March from Cleveland and our flights are atleast $600. It jumped up to $780 yesterday. I need it to go down to $675 then I’m buying. I did the STI thing because it’s cheaper but the time you spend is a pain. I did the bus  and I’ve done the taxi. Bus is cool but taxi is like $100 so you pay the Pop amount anyway with a taxi ride.

If you take a taxi to Sosua and take one back to Santiago you have defeated the purpose...That is 200.00 vs 8.00...The only thing you should lose is time which is not much time lost saving 300.00.

When I do go straight to Sosua from Santiago without staying in Santiago that day...I get to Sosua 30 minutes before the flight arrives to Pop...But again I have been doing thid move for years now...If you going to take a taxi then again you just defeated the purpose of saving 250.00 or more.

Stone this is the funny thing...I have only picked up one woman out of there 3 years ago...She was super so we agreed on 100.00 but I gave her 125.00 because she was super...But I just stick my head in the place and keep moving...I was there before the pandemic.

Now this is where I roll from Platino...Gozamba...Puerto del Sol...Lua...Ahi bar...LoVera...There are the pure Dominican civilians there.

In front of Plantino there is a nice bar place...Go sit there and you may see something nice...I met a civilian there and we hooked up my following trip.

Santo Domingo (SDQ) is an option as well, especially if you can get a nonstop flight. Does make for a long day though. You land at SDQ, clear customs in 30 minutes or so, and then take about a 20-30 minute taxi to the bus station. After that you wait around an hour or so for the next bus to Sosua. Then it's roughly a four-hour ride. That's a long day but worth it for some. Nonstop flights from Florida into SDQ usually are around $250. Yeah, the bus ride is a hassle, but the overall cost savings are tremendous.

Here's one other thing: Your overall travel time coming in through SDQ may not be much different than flying in from NYC and connecting in Miami. Just something to think about.

CC,

Are you fluent in Spanish? Just curious. You seem to move around the DR pretty easily. I've signed up for one-on-one Spanish lessons with a tutor on Preply. I'm hoping to make significant progress over the next 10-12 months.

Stones is right
Get a little creative with it and you can easily bring that cost down

FYI POP airport is scheduled to  be closed for runway construction May 9-17.   No flights during that time

Wait what? Literally bought my flights last week. I'm supposed to be landing in POP May 11th. Should I contact my airline about this? Weird they wouldn't know about it or have tickets for sale.

Where did you purchase your flight from.
They announced several weeks ago the airport would be closed

I haven't seen anyone offering flights during those dates

Right from the jetblue website

No I definitely don’t do the taxi. I did once because I had got my flight from credit from it being cancelled March of 2020. It was $75 but it wasn’t like I had just bought a flight. It was a future flight credit that I used last year. The last time I flew to STI, I used the bus. But it’s not worth it losing a couple of hours when you can be 20 mins away at Pop. It’s just annoying dealing with these flight prices. They fluctuate so much and you end up paying the same going one way from an airport that isn’t Newark or Miami because I have to leave on Friday to get down there.

Stone yes I know spanish very well...So many different situations come up so to move around in non tourist areas you have to be able to communicate...Love studying and teaching...Myself and a site member, Street, have become very close friends, all through hooking up in sosua and studying the language...2 years past, been good brothers/friends ever sense.

Stone that is great man, one on one tutor, great...So that tutor will be teaching you the language of spanish...You just have to apply yourself...And a tutor will hold you accountable and put you on a good structure to follow.

Dedicate yourself to learn..."dedicate! para aprender"

Yep, once you land in Santo Domingo it's about six hours to Sosua counting getting through customs, getting the taxi to the bus station, waiting for the bus and then the four-hour ride. BUT, some guys break it up by spending the first night in Santo Domingo before heading on to Sosua. No different than other guys who spend the first night in Santiago after arriving on one of those late night/early morning flights on Spirit.

Well hopefully it works out for you but you might want to give Jet Blue a call and confirm your flight on May 11 is still going to happen
At this point they show no flight can be booked on that date.   You might be in for a nasty surprise.

Literally just got the email this morning. Jetblue took it upon themselves to change my flight to Santiago.

Could anybody tell me what's the standard rate for a taxi to Sosua from STI?

Even better if ya could bless it with a number.

I know Spanish so if I at least know the standard rate I can keep myself from getting hustled.

Thanks in advance fellas.
