The American arrested in Salvador on suspicion of rape through fraud is a software engineer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The educational institution is considered the best university in the world.

The case took place on Tuesday (28), and Zachary Modi Mikaya, 29, a native of the state of Pennsylvania. The custody hearing, which will determine whether he will respond freely or in custody, began this Thursday (30), but until the publication of this report, it had not ended.

The engineer has been in Salvador for almost a year, working from home. He has a visitor visa, which expires on April 4. One of Zachary's lawyers, Geraldo Cunha, reported irregularities committed by the Military Police during the arrest.

The Military Police reported that Zachary was with his girlfriend and a sex worker, in an apartment rented by him, in the Rio Vermelho neighborhood. He was supposed to pay the hooker R$1,000.

After the sexual act, according to the PM, he refused to pay the amount and expelled the woman from the property they were in. Once on the street, the professional then called the police to report the sexual violence through fraud, since he did not pay for the professional's service.

Police officers entered the property and said they found Zachary "disoriented" and without clothes. They suspect that he was under the influence of narcotics, as a large amount of cocaine and LSD were found in his apartment.

When the police arrived, the man tried to attack the sex worker and his partner, who opened the door to the property.  After that, he also tried to take the pistol from two officers, who managed to prevent him from taking the weapon.  Police officers also said they asked him to wear clothes to take him to the police station.

The man proceeded to masturbate in front of the police. Zachary was taken to the Rio Vermelho Police Station. He was charged with the crimes of resistance and disobedience, obscene acts, drug use and sexual violation through fraud.

Well stated.  I think, back in the day, many of us tried to preserve the environment to the best extent possible because we wanted to continue to enjoy it.  Now it seems to be about cannibalizing as much of it as you can, for monetary purposes and notoriety or "clout chasing" as you said.
