For the summer of 2023…
What’s good?  Prices?  Scene?  Chicas? etc…

Tough crowd here!!!

I was a monger When most of you were in elementary school.  I used to come down to Boca Chica and Sosua in the mid to late 90’s.  Chicas were $30-40 for a short time.  If you were a good looking guy and treated them well and paid for food, sometimes you hardly paid anything!

The food was a bit cheaper back then.  The beers were less than $2 each.

Now I’m married with kids. I’m coming down with my wife for 4 days.  We plan on drinking, eating, beaching and maybe hooking up with a chica or so. Maybe she’ll hook up with a guy too!

Last time we came down was the summer before covid. We started into contract on a condo in sosua but backed out after I got scared —quite lucky because we wouldn’t have come down during the entire covid debacle.

Now can someone please give me the current lowdown in the bars restaurants and clubs?🤣

There are way too many restaurants to review. Almost all restaurants have a bar and most bars sell food. Just Google Sosúa dominican republic restaurants and Sosúa Dominican Republic bars. They have been well reviewed. The best thing to do is to get out and just go try a few.
If you can't change the outcome of a situation then don't worry about it.

Check the food section of the forum.  There are some reviews that are still valid since these places don't change much

It was never $10-20 in the 90’s. Maybe in the 70’s 🤣

I agree, I’ve shared here that the cost for ST was basically $40 for non-residents in 2002 when I made my first visit. Of course in general you got much better treatment back then so overall you got much more for every dollar spent.  At the time expats were paying about $30. They’d bitch at us for paying $10 more.

A couple weeks ago I had the best jambalaya of my life at Matteo's. Got sick on undercooked fish at Finger Finger...just saying.

Right? Folks kill me doing bad math with out of date conversion tables:

"Oh, I used to pay 800 pesos for chicas back in the day."

Yeah, because the conversion rate was 25 pesos for every dollar!

Since you have a car and can venture out of the block...

On the way to and in Cabarete:

Sea Horse Ranch. Spectacular ocean side setting and very good food in a high end gated community.

Coconuts Hideaway Beach, Playa Encuantro. Again, beautiful ocean front spot, good pizza

Front Loop. On the beach, good service, good breakfast and lunch, very busy on weekends.

Mojitos. Busy all the time. Salads and... Well guess.

Nectar. Vegan options, ocean view very nice food.

Vagamundo. As good a coffeehouse experience as you will get anywhere.

On the way to and in Puerto Plata:

la Catalina, a little out of the way but nice views, big place crazy busy on Sundays with locals and live music. Funky car collection and parrots .

Las Palmas, great italian, beautiful old house, fantastic gardens.

Patio Frida, by the pink instagram street, very good Mexican, very cool setting.

Visited all these spots within the last few months.
