Airline question
« on: October 26, 2023, 01:54:49 PM »
Im going to try Santo Domingo next month and it's 300 dollars cheaper if I buy a one way to FL then a one way to SDQ, My question is do I have to exit and then go through security again, it's the same airline and is 1.5 hours enough time between flights, not even sure if it's worth the hassle for $300 but I aint In no rush, never had a connecting flight or more than one flight same day

Not always. I’ve seen people with international flights get connections and passed over through security.
Cheaper ways to do things, doesn’t indicate quality, or lack of

If it’s the same airline, then no, you don’t have to go thru security again. Any checked items are going to be put on the next flight. Barring any delays, 1.5 hours should be enough time to connect to the SDQ flight.

Couple of things.

Is your flight domestic? Arriving from another country you 100% have to exit and come back in through security.

Boarding passes? if your flight is domestic and your airline allows online check-in this will not be an issue, you are in the terminal no bags, you will just have to check in at the gate to show your e ticket. If they do not, you likely will have to exit to check in. It is unlikely that you will be issued the boarding pass for the second flight if it is on a second ticket at your original airport, you need to speak to your airline.

Baggage? Again, check with the airline, it is unlikely they will check the bag to a final destination if you are on separate tickets. So you will have to exit to get your bag, if you checked in online you will still have to get to a bag drop.

So, domestic flight, no checked bag, airlines allows online check in.You are good to go.

International flight, no online check in, checked bag, I would not do that in Miami with less than two and a half hours.

The flights are stand-alones. With a 1 1/2 hour window all he can do is carryon. $300 is a substantial amount, but buying two separate tickets with a relatively short connection window is something I wouldn’t do. That shit could go sideways pretty damn quickly.

Another consideration about things going sideways. You check in at your departure airport on a single ticket to a final destination, the airline will get you there, feed you and put you up if required.

You are on two tickets and the first flight runs late, you missed your check in, you are a no show. Depending on the ticket you bought there could be no charge to rebook, the difference in the cost of the next flight, or a full fare new booking, and its up to you to cover the hotel if the next flight is the following day.

He’s not going to get checked in online because he’ll need to present the completed DR migration form to a ticket agent before being allowed at the gate. That will require leaving and reentering the terminal. You’d need at least a 2 hour window to pull that off.

So for folks who do online checkin with no bags, at what point are you requested to show you have an e ticket? Is online check in available for flights to DR?

I said in the other post that if you arrive domestic, you are in the concourse, you are at the gate, the gate agent will announce the names of the people that checked in online and at that point they request to see you have a valid e ticket.

What are these prices for the tickets? We get probably the cheapest flights to DR coming from NY, with out all the riff raff & connecting flights...

Oh you coming from nyc? Then def listen to Jazzy and Vivalavega’s advice above and go direct. One missed connection or cancellation would likely wipe out that $300 savings.

JetBlue wants 689 direct one way for the dates I can go and 360 for the two one ways, I know other airlines fly into Santo Domingo but I have Mosaic with JetBlue so i try to stick with them

I stick to Jetblue as well and I don't think I've ever paid more than 500 round-trip, and always a straight flight. I moreso fly in to Santiago and pay around $400 as well.

Usually it's cheaper to get two one way flights than a round trip.
