Anyone wanting a personal guide to the happenings in Sosua and the Dominican Republic in general can call Manny. Manny has been here for years and speaks English and Spanish.  You can give him what you think is appropiate and his advice can be priceless. He is very trustworthy and has been helping out of towners visiting Sosua for years. Manny can be reached at 829-891-1191

I've been to Sosua every ten to twelve weeks since my first visit three years ago and Henry is definitely a good guy.  In my time in the D.R. I've brought two condos and have frequently had Henry as my guess.  By the way, Henry also speaks Haitian Creole. I've included a pic of Henry, so you know I think of him as a friend.

Man you don't need a guide. That shit is overrated. Those guys will never leave you alone. And once you pay one of them, you become a target for begging ass dudes. They're not rude or anything, but they become a real pain in the ass with there constantly asking for shit. I go there 3-4 times a year, and I've never used or needed a guide. Hit me up, and I can let you know a few people to talk to while you're there.

Thanks Cazbar....The only reason I was thinking of a guide is because I don't know spanish very good, like very little. I am going alone on May 21, staying 9 days, and I am thinking I am going to be very lonely (with the chicas) because I can't talk to them. That is going to make me very sad. Unless I get her at hello, I am fricking lost. Any advice....hang out with someone who can....or what.....I can buy some beers, lol.

Damn, we're going to just miss each other. As for not speaking much Spanish. I speak very little Spanish and I do just fine. Every chica that don't speak English has a friend or two that does. But they all know how to speak money lol. And trust me, you won't be lost or lonely. The chicas will see to that. Check out some of the posts on here. I think a few of the fellas on here are going to be there the same time you are. If you want, feel free to send me a message for some more advise.

I have known a guy named Junior for ten years and he is the best guide you could ever want. He speaks four or five languages (English is one) and is not a hustler type. He knows the street and the more sophisticated places to go. His number is 809-816-0005 and you can say Mario recommended you to him.

I got a serious question.. Are we really here advertising and recommending Dominican Guides? Really? I see guys all the time being lead around like puppies and paying extra because they got a Dominican guide.. Buy me a drink and Ill make sure you straight.

That makes me laugh, I never seen anywhere where we recommend hustlers to each other.

I got a box called the NOT COOL BOX.. We gon put recommending street hustlers in the NOT COOL BOX

Well, I don't know your guy so I cannot say anything about him good or bad. I am VERY leery of using a local guide unless they come recommended to me by someone I personally have known for a while. (I have lived abroad, Kenya, the Caribbean, etc.) so I am not very trusting this way.  I have my reasons.

Personally, I live by "Trust NO ONE" when vacationing but that's just me and it's suited me fine. If you need a guide all I can suggest is find some gringos who have lived there for more than 5 years. Rick or Marco from Rocky's for example. Ask them to recommend to you someone with whom they would trust their Mother. I'm telling you it will be a VERY short list.

If I had to throw a name out into the ring I'd recommend a guy named Evans. He works the grills at Rumba and he'll tell you NO. He won't want the job. After a few nights of chatting him up, he might take you out for an afternoon so long as he can get back to work the grills that night. (He's a deeply religious fellow and has steered me away from a few chicas in the past)

Do I trust him? No, but I'd be much more comfortable with a guide who didn't want the job than one who's trying to sell you on why he should be your guide.

~ For what is is worth.

Guide's are not the move...I went solo 07/31/13 and hung out with some cool brothers that had a guide who was stealing there beer's and liquor when there back was turned. I noticed his bullshit and quickly let them know what was going on..

GuyFrank - you definitely don't need a guide ... you will spend a unnecessary amount of money on him, he will become your shadow and he will steer you to girls that will give him a small cut as he makes your deals (which means you will have to pay more). Everyone will know you are a newbee and try to get you to pay top dollar. Myself and a crew may be going that week (memorial day weekend)  but there are MANY cool brothers that will point you in the right direction when you get down there ...... The main thing is to make certain your staying somewhere comfortable and safe. Dont worry about your limited Spanish ...... that has never been much of a problem....

No guide-needed. The whole town of Sosua not counting the beach is the size of a big mall in the states. Walk around a couple of times and you'll get the hang of it. That money you spend on a guide you can spend on pussy...duh

There are 4 point-and-click places that I know of in Latin America:

Sosua
Rio (Copacabana area)
Costa Rica (San Jose casinos)
Panama (casinos)

No middle man needed.

I agree.  A local guide is not necessary.  Me and the crew ran into a local, Ramon, when we were there in March.  He spoke English and seemed cool at first.  But after the 3rd day, he kept popping up out of nowhere.  He was more clingy than the hoes out there.  It felt like he had a GPS tracker on one of us. Lol.

...although it didn't take a detective to know where to find us...D'Latin, Rhumba, liquor store down the street, and the outdoor restaurant just past the liquor store (great chillo frito).  I could live off those 4 locations for the rest of my life!  Everything a man needs within 1/2 mile.  Food, drank, & pussy.

If you need a guide in Sosua, then it is best that you don't go.  You can read this board and find all the information you need.  In Sosua all you need is common courtesy and common sense.  If you don't have any common sense, then you really shouldn't get a Passport.

You don't need a tour guide as Sosua it really only one long street that you will spend most of your time on. If you have any questions read the message boards or go on youtube and watch some CubaDave videos. If you get there and still feel lost ask another gringo NOT a local. Gringos are everywhere and more than happy to chat with you and help you out without wanting anything in return. The locals will try to hang out with you on your dime.

There is absolutely no need for a guide in Sosua. There will be locals that will try to latch themselves on to you. If you have a question or need to find where a place is, try to identify a fellow monger and ask him or ask someone working in a business.

Just finished my 1st trip solo paying anyone is crazy. Talk to few people before last connection. I got lucky ,guy sitting next to me was going to same hotel and invited me to tag along as he showed his newbie buddy around. Next morning I walked from VH to Europa and down side streets early when place is like ghost town. By 2nd night knew way around and had met enough fellow mongers that felt totally comfortable. Just beware of the ugliest Haitian you will ever see hanging by pizza joint at night and guy at Sinatras that swears he is from NY. He will talk you ear off.

I'm with cuzbar on this. I speak almost no spanish and my first trip a week ago went quite well. Just download Google Translator and use that. Chicas already have that loaded on theirs too and they will make sure you will have good time. Now, having some of the vets around you is a plus if you happen to plan your trip around the same time. They are just like you travelling from US or some other place, but they will certainly help you move around, but don't need any money from you. Again, my first two days in DR, I was all alone and it went very well. The 3rd and 4th day, the great vets, Nasty, Bach and 007 were there, which definitely was a great plus.

Remember not everyone is built for adventure like us, some are very timid and going to another State could be a little offputting for most little loan going to an entirely different country that speaks and entirely different language. Since the original post is dated more than six years ago, it's highly likely that the pal/guide/advisor services are no longer offered. While I agree that Sosua is small, to each his own. If someone wants a wingman for the trip, it's of no consequence to me.

I had a guide in Santo Domingo for a few days who me and my friend met at Zona colonial. While he did help us find chicas at brothels that were closed at the moment, had many connections locally, contacted other chicas for us to book for the night, drove us to Boca Chica and around town to get groceries, cigars, ATM, etc. we had to quickly cut him loose because this man was greedy.

He wanted 5000 pesos per day, not including gas (2000 peso), not including food and drink (the guy was ordering seafood).

While we appreciated him driving his own car and the conveniency of a local who speaks fluent Spanish helping us find chicas while everything is closed, we were NOT going to be his welfare and ATM fund.

So I told him “sorry we found another driver” and the guy just went apeshit. Blowing up my WhatsApp. Calling me names via text message. Said he had a family to feed (By this time we were in sosua, he only lives in Santo Domingo). Just a funny story of a crazy tour guide who couldn’t accept his tourist ATM shutting him off.

You nuggas are so funny.

"Built for adventure?" You nuggas aren't "built" like Indiana Jones. Shit, most of you fat-assed fools look like you ate Indiana.

Hanging out in Sosua, and going to the same three or four spots while smashing the same obscenely high mileage chicas hardly qualifies as "adventure." Do you know Spanish? Actual Spanish not the "ya ma-MI k lo k" bullshit you overheard on the subway.

I mean, if you can't speak the language, how can you possibly expect to have a meaningful vacation other than getting laid by insanely high-mileage chicas?

For some of you, that's "adventure," but really, it's no different than Backpage on the Beach.

Stop being so lazy, nugga. And, please stop being so damn nasty.

I feel sorry for you Tarik...Even as you troll here in the forum, I recognize your arrogance is camouflage for your insecurity.  Maybe you feel less than everyone else and a need to try and push them down below where you feel you are...that's sad.  Just remember, no amount of soap, body wash, shampoo, rubbing/scrubbing, yelling or smelling loudly can alleviate your recognition of how shitty you are as a person.

No need to feel sorry for me, dude. Unlike you, I don't live on this forum. And I look nothing like your avatar.

As I've stated numerous times before, the reality is most of your life issues are of your own making. You pretty much exist in Sosua (figuratively, if not literally) because you fail at so many other things. Things that are easy, like washing your ass and being accountable for the hot-ass mess you likely see in the mirror.

I don't think I'm special, not at all. Until I get to Sosua, where you nuggas have dropped an already-astonishingly-low bar into the mud puddle.

I remember when I heard the "Sosua is over" comments from whytebois who felt pushed out back 10-15 years ago. Back then, it was black men who were enjoying themselves. Responsible, cool, guys who were about their business. Now, it's taken over by the nuggarati. Idiots who live for the "studio" or VIP, everyone's on some dumb-ass juvenile hustle, and they say they're bosses, but never met a chicken wing they could say "no" to.

But, enough about that.

I'm actually trying to help you, even though I'm sure you don't think you need it. See, Nuggas Like You come from the most f--ked up parts of NYC, and then tra-voo to the most f--ked up part of DR. From your hellish perspective, it's a come-up. But anywhere else on the planet, Nuggas Like You make things harder for Black Men.

It's like...remember when "da clu" opens in NYC, and everyone is cool and having a good time, and then a few weeks later the hustlers discover it? Right after that, it's the nuggas, then the shooting starts, and the place is shut down, and everyone is commiserating about how black folks can't have nice things?

Well, that's Sosua now, thanks to Nuggas Like You. Truly beautiful chicas everywhere have been replaced by hoot rats, and it happened because that's what cheap, nasty Nuggas Like You rate.  There's a reason the quality girls have gone online, and to other places on the island. I mean, why bother, really? Getting pounded by some bloated fuggly who had no idea renting an overpriced villa and SUV, who might have covid or some other bug, who thinks going raw with prostitutes is "adventure," and then wants to pay half the going rate because "that's what's up?"

And you feel sorry for me, with all that stupid pathological shit you've got going on? GTFOOHWTBS

Silly rabbit, what I look like has nothing to do with anything...Only someone measuring themselves would think that.

As I've stated numerous times before, the reality is most of your life issues are of your own making. You pretty much exist in Sosua (figuratively, if not literally) because you fail at so many other things. Things that are easy, like washing your ass and being accountable for the hot-ass mess you likely see in the mirror.
You know nothing about someones life and to try and measure /comment on someones life is really you measuring your own shortcomings in life and projecting it on others.

I don't think I'm special, not at all. Until I get to Sosua, where you nuggas have dropped an already-astonishingly-low bar into the mud puddle.
The only low bar is one you set in your mind as something you think youre above...but in reality youre pathetically lower.

Why so mad? It's funny how a nugga on a lazy monger site is trying to be all Iyanla van Zant in here.

Talk about misplaced priorities. Look in the mirror, nugga. One of us is just fine, and the other is you. And, that's absolutely NOT my fault. I'm not the one who stuffs garbage into your gullet. I'm not the one who says "naw, bro, you don't need a shower this week." I'm not the one who encourages you to pay usurious rates for athletic footwear, and then not exercise.

And, I'm certainly not the one telling you that nearly 6,000 posts on a website devoted to the laziest form of mongering is "what's up." But, you do you, so whatevas.

It's true life isn't fair. BUT there is hope, and it's really not that hard to get there. You can dramatically improve your sorrowful lot in life by (winding up...) putting down the Dr. Phil books, picking up some soap and washing your fat ass at least once a day*, eating right, wearing clean clothes, learning Spanish, exercising more than your ability to chew and swallow obscene amounts of crappy @ss food, wrapping your ish up, and...what was it?

...ah, yes, stop being so damn nasty.

* I mean a real scrub down. Get that nasty-ass funk off of you, even under those folds of fat. Being all moldy and mildewy is one of the reason only the scraggliest and most desperate of chicas will fux with you.
