 Article that just showed up.

https://dominicantoday.com/dr/tourism/2022/04/01/mitur-admits-flights-to-dominican-republic-are-extremely-expensive/
According to the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, improving air connectivity is one of the significant challenges facing the Dominican Republic to become a much more competitive tourist destination.

The Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) head emphasized that flights to the Dominican Republic “are costly.”

Collado indicated that in his administration, he had changed the modality of presenting the country by traveling with his team to different states of the United States and the world to sell the Dominican Republic directly to tour operators and travel agencies. However, he emphasized that the subject always mentioned to him is connectivity and airfares.

Because of the high cost of airfares, the Dominican government is focused on supporting the launching of new airlines that can offer fares at a much more competitive price.

Another of the challenges of the industry that the Minister of Tourism recently addressed while participating in the Amchamdr Encounter of the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic is to continue strengthening security in the tourist centers, understanding that the projects of the beaches with security cameras must continue to be implemented.

Likewise, he believes it is necessary to strengthen and create a business brigade in the tourist police, where the agents receive salary increases and the one who earns the least is 40,000 or 50,000 pesos.

He also expressed the need for 30,000 new hotel rooms and refurbishing part of the existing ones.
If you can't change the outcome of a situation then don't worry about it.

All good points  ,Gee why not lower the air port tax At POP,,, no brainer  Hotels  in Sosua  ok a few are up to standards as far as sosua  kinda full at the Inn meaning no more room  other than the beach and a few good reseruants in town  theres not much there for the family tourist to do or see   in a 10 block area....as far as chicas  they will be there one way or an other  AS far as cost to fly  if the inflation and the cost of energy keeps going up,, folks are not going on vacation   a crash meaning economic! hold on to your hats!   Then the big price reset !   just dont fly Red wings !

Across the board flying has shot up!  But if ur in the NY area there’s a JetBlue from JFK to POP that’s been real reasonable. I was thinking of using my miles to fly into JFK and connect from there.

I flew Avianca, and Vivaair in Brazil and Colombia. Never Copa but I’m open minded. I don’t think I’d be trusting any Dominican Republic airlines until the first 2-3 years are out the way.(I don’t trust the logistics, qualities and believe some short cuts will be taken to offset low fare)

Still the typical Dominican citizen will definitely feel the spike in increased fares. They still likely will fly to the cheapest city available and work from their but when the cheap 167-177 RT flights from Miami turn into 350-450$ or they will feel it. Even a small spike of 50$ to 230 is a week pay for some in the lower sector. Tourist can afford it, but national citizens likely aren’t excited considering they are still losing value on their money despite overspending tourist coming in regularly
Cheaper ways to do things, doesn’t indicate quality, or lack of

And that ticket price is definitely not typical. It’s just the busy travel season and airline understaffing at play, mostly.

Prices should start to calm down going into August and beyond, but it will still be higher than usual due to inflation.

At this point prices in early August on AA are as high as they’ve been, outside of July 4th,  in the last 12 months. Prices appear to be easing after Labor Day and the start of hurricane season.

It is mainly high fuel costs not inflation and staffing. So, as long as there is a continued fuel embargo against Russia and less fuel production in the US; fuel prices are going to remain high would result in continued high fuel prices.

Uth, what you’re saying is incorrect.

“Airlines under scrutiny for widespread flight disruptions are renewing their criticism of the government agency that manages the nation’s airspace, saying that understaffing at the Federal Aviation Administration is ‘crippling’ traffic along the East Coast.”

Where in the article does it say prices were raised because of understaffing. That's the reason for flight cancellation because there is not enough staff (two separate issues). The cost of fuel has risen 100%. That is the main reason for high price airline tickets (the topic of this thread).

Fuel is a operation cost. Planes don't run on air.

Wow. Name calling. The question is "how old are you". Calling someone a "dick head" because you disagree is a sign of immaturity. Key word "is a". You stated fuel costs were only a small fraction of the price jump, which is factually not true. But believe what you want. If you ran a business, you would know increased fuel prices increases everything from Food, goods, and other items that have to shipped to reach consumers.
