The idea is to thrive in a place that is affordable, socially stimulating, healthy enough to live there, can get my bio needs taken care of.......and located where it's easy for me to travel elsewhere.   I recall my connection in Bogota , and how the customs/immigration agent got testy with me just because I didnt quite understand him.   He said something smart about, you going to Colombia and you dont know Spanish.  I could have told him, that maybe if he wasnt mumbling I might have understood him, like I have with other Colombians.  But I wanted to make my connection.

Exact same thing happened to me at BOG. The mumbling ass female agent's SECOND question was to ask for my vaccine cards (both questions asked while she was looking down) and I couldn't understand. She said the same smart assed comment (loud, clear and looking at me, I might add)....I left it alone as well.

All facts….
How many remember when a chica would make eye contact, ( staring so hard at you that you could feel her staring)..wink or smile at you to get your attention.

Once she saw she had your attention, she would walk over to you to introduce herself. Giving the guy an opportunity to invite her to sit down or straight up make her a offer.

Guys where not running from table to table approaching girls, it was the girls doing the approaching (they where the ones working, and where good at it).

Now many girls are sitting staring in there phone, do not know the art of making eye contact and not sending signals that it’s you, I want to do business with.

I don’t approach the girls, (and I’m damn sure not afraid).. If  she’s handling her business (putting out proper hoe signals) I call her over to see if we both have the same thought pattern…. My money for her pussy at my quoted price.

I remember like 2020 I'm in the casino and randomly watching a dude motion for a chick to come to him.

Like you, I don't approach them....so seeing that kinda irked me a wee bit.

But when the chica look at him....paused....and kept on walking? My mind was like DAMN WTF HAPPENED TO SOSUA CHICAS?

You make a lot sense.  Totally agree on the differences. But without comparing the two, perception and fear sometimes takesover logic and reason for a certain % of the population.

Like when some people vacationing at resorts in the DR were dying from bootleg liquor.  Or a few tourists died at the hands of locals.  One would have thought shit was happening throughout the DR.  That there was a mass murdering campaign on tourists.

Even as big as Colombia is, a tourist who has never been may still be spooked hearing stories like that.   Guys who have been there and got scoped and robbed might change their outlook too.  Especially if they got no help from police.

I was scared to go to Medellin myself and even to this day I'm careful in Bogota and Medellin.

You get clocked from when you step off the plane and some dumb dub dubs flexing got robbed before they made it to their airbnb's.

I squeeze in a trip to El Centro Bogota about 1 weekend every 5-6 weeks. My last Uber was afraid to drop me off 🤣🤣. Having lived in NYC for 25yrs, I've developed a sense of being oblivious to the dangers of being in the Bogota streets.

I dress down like them, and only carry about 30,000 pesos on me. If I'm going somewhere specific, I carry no more than 100k pesos.

If I'm hemming and hawing too long, then decide not to take her.....I'll give her 4k-5k pesos for her time.

I'm respectful to everyone working in the stores/restaurants....and I give them about a 15% tip.

I try to speak as much Spanish as possible, even pre translating sentences for various scenarios.

Doing this makes me feel like I'm abiding by a universal street code.

In my mind these people are family, adjunct to each other. They are all watching me in one way or another. If I'm doing right by them, I feel they'll do the same for me.

You're moving correctly. The fact that you give respect to get respect is noticed.

Yup, Im not surprised that it happened to others as well.   Im guessing, flying into any other airport in Colombia, that attitude from their agents wouldnt have been that bad.
Where you stand on the issue depends on where you sit.  The words enough, some, many , to whom it applies to, does not mean ALL of any people, places or things.  If you cant, dont or wont learn from friends, family or your peers, dont worry the locals will teach you, and you will learn the hard way.
