Recommended Hotels or AirBNB in Santo Dominigo
« on: January 24, 2023, 04:19:38 PM »
I was looking to do a weekend 3 to 4 day trip to Santo Domingo. Looking for something that is walking distance to restaurants and stores. Any suggestions?

Crown Plaza - Malecon. Older hotel, but rooms are a solid 3 with incredible ocean views. Also cool, because they didnt seem to care that randoms were visiting me, and there are a couple (not many) of chicas that work the casino and the bar.

Holiday inn- Piantini/naco. Close to a couple of malls, including Agora. Next door to Mona Lisa Restaurant, decent food, busy lounge. 5minute walk from Zambra club, 3 minute walk from a liquor store that turns into a party. 8 minute walk from Mama club (which I hate but some people on here love) many many other cafes, a park, places from food and drink and an Adrian Tropical ( a popular Caribbean chain)

Embassy Suites - Naco/naco. similarly surrounded by the stuff above.

Dominican Fiesta _ didnt like the room, very dated, but they have a good gym, a good pool, and locals love hanging out there. The bar at night, turns into a party and Dominicans are friendly folk.

Dominican Fiesta sound like a place I would like to try. A place with a lively Dominican scene is always fun.

I stayed there for 3 weeks and enjoyed the heck out of all but the room; looked like it hadn't been updated since the 90s. Enough cant be said about the pool situation. Its buzzing all day with people. 1 day, I'm hanging in the Jacuzzi solo, and some dude (ended up being a player for the Detroit Tigers) and 4 baddies decide to join me. We all hit it off and I was basically a member of the squad. Ended up having oxtails at his aunties house the next day with a forever invite. Bus load of dentists and medical estheticians from Colombia  came the next week for a couple days, and again, locals come to this place to drink dance and chill nightly. Just had a very different vibe from the other hotels I mentioned.

The rooms not that big a deal to me, only good for 2 things and 1 of them is sleeping lol.Stayed in plenty of 2 -3 star hotels if the location is great. If you ask for changes to your room; ie. new pillows, extra towels ect. 1-200 pesos its done. Had a new mattress brought to me once for 200 pesos the next day. I find low rent places are fun.

ill second hotel palacio. they have free parking if you are driving, a small rooftop pool,  very limited gym but the rooms are very nice, especially the suites. great location and you can virtually walk to all the restaurants and bars in ZC

After a few trips to Santo Domingo I only stay at Airbnbs around the Colonial Zone and Santo Domingo Este area. Most are guest friendly but message the host to make sure. The areas out west are more upscale and have plenty of nice restaurants but the traffic is a nightmare and just isn't worth it to me anymore.
