Funny how the US buries cuba with sanctions and other BS,  they should lift all sanctions bury them with capitaiizm,, shit open trade, would be a great place , more tourizim, more latino pussy! !!

I am in Cuba a couple of times a year (way more often 8-10 years ago). The living conditions are at the lowest since the Soviet Union collapsed. There is currently a stampede to leave the country by anyway possible which includes illegal entry into the United States.

There was some promise during the Obama years and hope (remember hope?) that change would come. But every positive step was overturned during the Trump years, new restrictions added and as a curtain call tossed a grenade into the room after Jan 6 and the orange terrorist declared that the country harboured terrorists... And that f--ked them.

The motivation to continue sanctions for the South Florida voters has evolved over time. It used to be about human rights. Now with the staggering number of new mega resorts in Veradero and the half dozen brand new 5 star hotels in Havana sitting empty and the desirability of Cuba as a cruise destination... Its about the cash.

No one from Disney to the SFCA to D.R. wants the sleeping giant of Caribbean tourism to open.

Obama cared so much about the Cuban people that he ended the wet foot dry foot that allowed Cubans to come to the USA.  Which deported them back, while encouraging Mexicans to stay.

As Trump says "why do we have to take any of these people from shithole countries. Can't we just take from Sweden and Germany."

America is a net exporter of over $200 billion yearly in agriculture production.  Americans are not picking those crops or working in those meat processing plants. Immigrants are doing that work just like Haitians are doing it in the Dominican Republic.

Dudes are not learning Spanish because there are more Latinos in the United States. You have expats who cannot put a sentence together, along with vets who have been going to Sosua for years and who cannot speak Spanish. Either you stay competitive or get left behind - that is happening right now in the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴.

It's a wee bit more complicated than that. Yes as part of the thawing of diplomatic relations between the US and Cuba, negotiations included ending the very unpopular (from the Cuban gov standpoint... except during the boatlift) US special treatment of Cuban migrants.

Actually, it's not that complicated. Cubans tend to vote Republican.  Its all about power and potential votes. If Mexicans were the same way, that border would shut down yesterday.

With the south Florida Cubans and The Villages, Florida is no longer a swing state. Blue should have just said f--k it, we ain't gonna win Florida no matter what, lets try and encourage some change.... Nothing. In fact with the new ESTA rules it's even worse.

As Trump says "why do we have to take any of these people from shithole countries. Can't we just take from Sweden and Germany."

Because usa do not have a blocus on sweden and germany preventing their population from having decent living conditions ... in fact most people in sweden or germany have much better living conditions than the average american. Why in hell would they possibly want immigrate to usa??
Why bother with life?
Nobody has ever come out alive.

Berkeley native returns to the US as part of prisoner exchange with Venezuela

By Andrea NakanoDecember 20, 2023 / 11:58 PM PST
Just in time for the holidays, a Berkeley native is coming home after being held captive by Venezuelan officials.

The U.S. and the socialist-run country struck a deal to release Savoi Wright and seven other prisoners.

Wright was arrested on Oct. 24, but according to his family, charges were never filed. In fact, they were forced to pay a hefty ransom they could barely afford.

After months of negotiations between the two countries, Savoi Wright was finally freed and he is giving us a glimpse of what he experienced the last couple of months.

Towering at 6 foot, 10 inches, family members call Savoi Wright a gentle giant. He landed Wednesday night in Texas.

Wright said, "Free at last. Free at last. Thank God almighty, free at last. Very emotional, exciting, grateful."

Wright wouldn't share specific details about his time behind bars in Venezuela but was held without formal charges being filed and was not allowed to see an attorney.

He added, "Incarcerated, held in Venezuela. Kidnapping, extortion detained and in jail."

Wright's arrest came just days after the Biden administration imposed crippling oil sanctions on Nicolas Maduro's government.

The Berkeley native said, during the hard times, he had to go to a spiritual place but he acknowledged he met angels that helped him along the way. Wright sensed a deal for his freedom was being worked on the last several days but is slightly in shock to finally be back home.

He said, "I did not know if I would ever make it out. And it's really scary to be in a place where you're used to having freedoms, and you're locked into a cell. Sometimes with four other people in a very tiny cell. To realize, am I ever going to get out of this? Am I ever going to make it home? How did I get to this point?"

Wright divided his time between Oakland, Miami and South America as he worked remotely as a mortgage loan officer.

His family couldn't make it in time to greet him as he got off the plane, but they were finally able to FaceTime.
