Atlanta Lights
« on: April 15, 2021, 07:18:03 AM »
I went to Atlanta Lights last night and I had a really good time.  It’s a really nice vibe and the view is amazing.  I wish them much success.  The waitresses are beautiful and well presented.  It is not a place for “mongering” but if you are looking to do something different.  I love hookah, so it was perfect.  Good mixture of music..Dembo, bachata, reggae...and the waitress were all cool and dancing.  Like I said it was a good vibe. I had the chicken and waffles.  The waffle was the best waffle I ever had...the chicken was good, but nothing special.  I paid about $60 for hookah, two entrees, and two drinks.  Which wasn’t bad.  Cheaper than Baileys.  If you like hookah and a place with nice decor and a view I highly recommend it.

I said I changed my mind he can make it. Any Dominican artist in town give a free bottle and hookah and get them photos.  It would fail if it was about mongering, authorities would not tolerate that in Pop by an American.

I think its a little to early to call it a success, most new businesses only last 1-3 years, a couple of months is nice to have but doesn't indicate the long term success of a joint in the DR. We have seen so many bars and 'establishments' come and pop off for a minute (CMP, Passions, Pico De Flora ???(tu sabes)??, D-Latins, Classico, After 1 club/casino?), but when ultimately we look at the eventual outcome of these places after the "honeymoon" phase is done, they were only "popping" for like 1.5 years - MAX.

Now knowing the drama that surrounded this place when it had its "pre-grand opening event", which resulted in getting all their gringo patrons arrested, I can't say I have any confidence that this owner/operated bar will have any long-term staying power because the powers that be will eventually figure out a way to take everything he has (and they will just change a law overnight to show these negro gringo-owned bars who runs shit)

I'll be impressed if they are still around in 2024.....

E: I just realized the one outlier in all of this is Blackbeards, and I've never truly understood how that gringo-owned establishment still exist for WELL over a decade. I'm lost on that one LMAO!

Blackbeards has lasted as long as it has because ownership operates under the radar and does not seek to expose the business to the limelight.

Deano operates in a manner to promote his business to get into the limelight as much as possible.

I think my air-bnb for my May POP stay is a block or two away. I'll check it out.

Totally agree what your saying.  Monday through Wednesday place is dead like all of malecoln.  I would never have opened a restaurant during a pandemic, but he did.   Your right time will tell. Again, his hope is Dominicans will come and support.

Went today, Thursday, for a hot dog and 2x1 beer as a late lunch. But i guess they are feeling Dominican. The Do Not Enter cones and chain were still up after three so i guess they were felling like opening on time.  I thought for some reason they opened at one for lunch. Maybe not.

There is a really nice professionally staffed bistro across the street, now that was a nice spot.

Regarding Blackbeards and why it has lasted through the ups and downs...

Ya' ever notice that if you do a Youtube search for "Blackbeards", "Dominican", "Sosua" or anything D.R. monger related...you RARELY see video of Blackbeards Bikini Contest, Wet T-Shirt Contest, Babydoll Night, etc. popping up there?

Or Costambar in general?

Yeah...

Yeah...

I know right?

For all of the critics of BB's (mostly stuff about it being 'boring' or for old guys who need to be in bed by 9:30 every night) the place has been going strong for over 20 years now. All of the naked/half-naked contents, games and pageants taking place every week and yet, there's hardly any video media about it. It's almost as if the guys who go there know to respect both themselves and the house. The gringo owner passed away a few months ago and the place didn't skip a beat.

About 40 or so average to above-average looking girls work in 2 daily shifts. No fights. No drama. No thefts. No cops called. No bait & switch. And yet the women who work there often had to be put on a waiting list just for the golden opportunity to sex up a bunch of super lame dudes who don't draw attention to themselves like that other more popular tourist beach town that shall remain nameless.

It's true and some love that "all inclusive" atmosphere where you don't have to go off property and everything you want is at your finger tips.
