Playa Dorada Resort complex. Beautiful beach, shops, restaurants, movie theater, and Oasis whore house across the street.

Yep, Playa Chapparal in El Pueblito.

I'm staying there for all of April.

Some good suggestions have already been posted, but I like the combo of Lifestyles Resort, in Puerto Plata, with a smash room at Blackbeards, which is about 15 minutes away. There are nice beaches at Lifestyles.   The key to booking Lifestyles is to book through the resort or through someone who is a "member" of Lifestyles. Sure, there are heavily discounted rooms on sites like Hotels.com, but they are all crap. The other issue is the cost of cab rides back and forth from Lifestyles to BB. One roundtrip could cost you $40 US, although there are some cheaper workarounds. Whatever you decide, good luck!

Tin: Playa Dorada and El Pueblito are two different beaches though they are fairly close together.

The Beach in El Pueblito is called Playa Chapparal. I'm there now. It's a cool little area. It's quiet and has a more Dominican feel. It's very affordable. Playa Dorada is much more tourist-oriented and much more expensive.

Here's a video of a guy going to visit Playa Bergantin.  Pay attention to the :25 second mark...that is the fork in the road that goes directly to the rio intersection of the beach. It makes the trip 5 minutes long versus going straight to the main section of the beach by the island which is 20minutes long....hence them speeding up the video.
