Everyone just go to the bank. Have your passport. They always give you the best rate. I got 48 today and yesterday, Some people say WesternUnion is pretty good but I only pick up pesos there.

Hip Hop I must say you are wrong on this one ... the cambio behind the orange store was giving me better rate that all the banks I went to in sosua ... so far the best bank rate for Canadian $ was banco popular (35.1 pesos for 1CA$) and the guy behind orange store gave me 35.3 pesos.
You may say that this is nothing but over 2000$ it makes 400 pesos more in my pockets ... well 2 free breakfast for me ...
So far I checked rates at all the banks between plaza europa and the strip and banco popular.

Hello crazy_canuck OR anyone others canadian dollar users
Any idea for the Canadian dollar rate right now in sosua? CURRENTLY the normal rate is around 38.70 for 1$ cad. Here in Montreal Calforex has the best rate of 36 dop for 1$ cad. Is it better to buy here in Montreal or wait to get to sosua? is the rate better in sosua?

Yes you will get better rate in sosua ... The rate right now on XE.com is at 38.8 so expect to get 37 to 37.5 if you go at the cambio behind the orange store ... he's reliable.
Just a piece of advice: never change at the airport or if you absolutely need to, change as less as possible ... the rate at the airport is terrible ... if you get 37 at cambios, you will get 32 or 33 at the airport ...

Thx man. The airport is always out of the question

So I have to make an updated post. Come to find out the reason why I was getting such a great exchange rate was because of the relationship I have with the bank. Everyone else does not get this soon exchange rate as a matter fact it’s pretty bad. So I agree with you crazy. Weston union gives pretty good rates but the gentleman behind the orange store is pretty standup guy and always gives a really great rates

@ All    I have tried to tell everyone about cambio in Colonial Plaza aka Orange plaza. Last trip I sold back 25000 peso , he charged me 49.30, I had been getting peso from him at 49.20 so his profit on the deal was about $1.08. You cannot go wrong dealing with him.

Just got quoted an exchange rate of 50 and currently rate is 52.382. Is this a fair exchange rate (excuse my ignorance in this matter)?

The exchange rate is better than the philippines now.  The cost of services depends on how you roll.

Its a very good rate. Has me interested in making more trips but I need some new experiences in between DR trips.

52.80 last night at the Playero in town and today at the money exchange. If Playero gives the same exchange rate, it seems logical to simply exchange money when getting groceries.

Caribe Express in Sosua @ Supa Pola 56.70.       Mapello the mobile exchange guy 56.60,  Both quoted rates as of yesterday June 11,2021.
Where you stand on the issue depends on where you sit.  The words enough, some, many , to whom it applies to, does not mean ALL of any people, places or things.  If you cant, dont or wont learn from friends, family or your peers, dont worry the locals will teach you, and you will learn the hard way.
