Dude, that barrio is rough as hell.
Why would you even want to venture out there?? To each his own. Just tell the hoe to come over to your hotel and handle your business with her, no need to go to their hood. Trust me, they won't recognize you if they see you walking around at night or day, everybody knows everybody.
Just be careful, if you do.

I'm adventurous but not reckless so thanks for the intel. I always cab the chicas to me even if I do know the neighborhood, but I suppose it's best to be less curious sometimes.

You know, as someone who has been in some sketchy neighborhoods in the DR it ain't that bad.  Poor people aren't savages waiting to attack you the minute set foot in their neighborhood.  More often than not they try to make it seem as safe for you as possible.  My first trip to Rio, we stayed in really nice hotel and we were really nice to the doorman and he invited us to a house party in his neighborhood.  We had fun and people welcoming.  It was in Rocinha, one of the worst favelas, if not the worst, in Brazil.  Most of the shit that goes down in the DR against foreigners are in the "safe" places.  If you aren't comfortable then don't go but I have had some good times going to the chicks' houses.  Or you could just stay in Piantini.

Rochina is literally the SAFEST favela in Brazil, if not the world bro. Zona Norte & spots in Del Castilho, Cascadura & Bangu are much rougher. Not trying to call you out BTW, but Favela Rochina isn't full of savages, it's good people there as you said.

It was over 20 years ago.  Shit changes.  You get the point I was trying to make.  I did qualify that it was my first trip there and at the time people consider it very dangerous.  The shit that went down before the World Cup and Olympics was most definitely not safe.
