What would it be like to live in either Nairobi or Mombasa long term? Safe enough? Is the food good enough? Enough western food variety? Was the wifi fast and reliable?

Basically if you stay in a nice area and spend most of your time there is it pretty similar to being in the DR? Or is it a major step down in way of life and infrastructure, so much so that you wouldn't want to stay for months or a year?

There's a swimming pool, ice skating rink and movie theater in Panari mall. Swimming in the olympic sized indoor pool is around 10 dollars a day.

The downsides is the cost for long term housing, It's about the same but in the DR most places have inverters. In Kenya most places do not. It's not hot in Nairobi so you don't need an AC unit.  That being said although the power doesn't go out as much as the DR when it goes out it goes out for way longer and it's hard to escape it by living in a posh area like the westlands. If you want a place with a back up generator you're in the 700 to 1000 buck a month range, If the power going out for 8 hours a month doesn't bother you could get the same place in the Westlands that you paid 700 dollars for about 450 to 550 a month.

Another thing is slums,  Chances are your maid and half of the people working as waitresses live in a slum and the slums aren't that far away from the nice parts of town. Outside of the city the roads are more potholed than in the DR.

It may not matter to you but there's way more income inequality. Kenya in a lot of ways is more delevoped than the DR it's more stuff to do especially in the big city and you can get things easier and everyone speaks english and the local TV has english programming.

But poor Kenyans are way poorer than poor Dominicans.
